I've just recieved a mumsnet pregnancy e-mail for 9-12 weeks and was wondering why you refer to the baby as 'her' and 'she' what if i have a boy? Why not refer it the baby as 'your baby' or 'its' as in 'its arms and legs' etc why 'her arms and legs'?

I'm not having a go i'm genuinely intrested as to why you've given the baby a female persona.

Thankyou

Hello.

Yes, we do refer to the baby as "she" but that's not because we know more than you do or because we've got any problems with "he" babies (I've got three of those and they're very nice!)

As we say in the intro to every pregnancy email (in italics at the top): "we all know that babies come in two flavours but - as most of you won't know what flavour you're getting - for clarity, we will refer to your baby as "she"."

Congrats on your pregnancy, btw!
