must admit, I don't like the name

find it a bit cringey & wouldn't mention it to rl people

EssenceOfJack · 02/03/2010 08:21

What came first? Netmums or Mumsnet?
I was talking to someone the other day and she couldnt remember which site it was she posts on

JustineMumsnet · 02/03/2010 09:32

Interesting - think it's only cringey if your view of "mums" is that collectively they're cringey/dull/stoopid - which is a rather widely-held prejudice we're finding but hopefully MN goes some way to dispel that.

I think it's quite a good name tbh - clear, broad and to the point. EssenceofJack yes we came first by a couple of years I believe.
10 today!

DottyDot · 02/03/2010 09:35

Happy Birthday!

TrillianAstra · 02/03/2010 09:35

If it wasn't called Mumsnet we wouldn't get the entertaining emails from people who want to have a discussion about it

RaiseYourBerets · 02/03/2010 14:15

yes happy birthday

You should put up the FIRST EVER thread today.

RaiseYourBerets · 02/03/2010 14:19

yes why no birthday stuff up?

Rockbird · 02/03/2010 14:21

Smileys with little party hats on at least I think it's a great name. Snappy and to the point and seemingly obvious and yet so many layers...

SerenityNowakaBleh · 02/03/2010 14:22

Yes, put up the first ever thread! What was it on?

mumonthenet · 02/03/2010 14:31

essenceofjack.....how on EARTH did your friend not notice a difference between mumsnet and netmums?

Did you ask her if she noticed any flashing animated smilies or sparkly tickertape?

Happy Birthday MN.

Yep, where can we see a fascimile of the original first PAGE!!!!!!!?????????

TheFoosa · 02/03/2010 16:22

well, I don't personally think mums are collectively dull/stupid/whatever (obviously I am one), but the name Mumsnet seems a bit fluffy and nice

which is so far removed from what MN actually is

EssenceOfJack · 03/03/2010 12:16

mumonthenet, I know

I worry about her, I really do.

Earthymama · 05/03/2010 16:33

I love the name Mumsnet, it sums up the net of wisdom we can all call on.

But really after all this time you don't 'hear' the seperate words do you? It's Mumsnet, like Hoover or Sainsbury or BBC! The whole thing has taken on its own identity.
