Anyone else feel as if they have just 'grown out of' Mumsnet?

I was intrigued by the 2009 Mumsnet 'Census' - with large numbers of 30-somethings IIRC... and I just got around to thinking, "perhaps you really DO just 'grow out of MN'?

Chances are, a lot of people join before their first baby (late twenties/thirties?) and then stay with it through toddlerdom and infant school... but then it all gets a bit samey doesn't it, and real life begins to be much more interesting again?

Of course there are 'Teenagers' topics and all that, but I just find there are fewer and fewer threads/topics of interest & relevance to me personally these days...
(pushing mid-forties, kids age 7 & 10)

So, if that's true....where do all the old MNers go??? Is there another site somewhere for us? (and puhleeease, don't say the mouldy word...)

I kind of wondered this. Although I'm more than happy to give fellow MN's the benefit of my worldy wisdom and experience, I sometimes feel ancient on here.

I feel a bit like this as my DS's are 7 and 9, but I still enjoy the sleb and style thread!

It does get a bit samey. When the same old subjects are posted by people who think they are breaking new ground. But hell! We all did it. If it was all babies and toddlers you wouldn't see me for dust! So not grown out of it yet. There are too many non-child related subjects for that

What you do is just hide an increasing number of topics so this whole world of potty training, breast/bottle feeding etc etc passes you by completely.

And tbh there are times I've felt more in need of parenting advice with older DCs (2 grown up) than I did when they were toddlers.

Hassled - that's what I've done - hide all the 'baby' topics... then I hid the Good Housekeeping, 'cos I really didn't like all the 'flying' threads... and then I thought about hiding AIBU, as people all seemed to get so het up so quickly, but if I did that there's be nothing left!

Not trying to creat a mass exodus, but seriously, where else can I go next?

Not interested in Sleb stuff...

Think my ideal site would be a combination of Culture Vultures/ Politics/ Freelancers and some 'Older Parenting'....

I think it is growing with us. I have been around for a number of years and to begin with, as I already had my children and had been through the pregnancy and baby stages, I found the threads about older children a bit limiting. But now there seems to be a much stronger emphasis on parenting older children, plus I have hidden all the nappy, weaning, etc threads!

I too feel that a lot of the topics are old news for me (fair enough) and the same things keep coming up.

I can't bear to post any more on what do I call my DD's bits or how to get a child to eat or why isn't my 1yo walking etc etc.

Still like style and beauty and Telly ones tho so maybe there's hope.

You know what, I wish in real life I could wear a hat that displayed topics in which I'm interested. And I could "hide" anyone who mentioned babies, toddlers, special offers in Asda etc...

The trouble is in RL I never meet ANYONE with whom I can have a conversation about anything beyond... "Is Johnny walking yet?" or "When's it due?" or "No, I haven't tried Sainsbury's Dine in for £10" or even "Oh, are the bins being collected a day late this week?"

So. for better or for worse, I have to stick with Mumsnet.

It's taken me about 6 months to get from the 'posting everywhere' stage to the 'oh god not THIS again' stage. But I snurk around and occasionally attempt to annoy people or state the obvious. TBH I'm here for the allergies board, have been for years, can't see that changing.

There are good threads though, just maybe one or two a week rather than what seemed like loads. There's been a lot of name-calling and resentment about how the site is run though, and it's starting to wear a bit thin. I'm online to kill time and have fun/bitch, much like meeting friends for lunch. It all gets a bit deep here sometimes...

Re: Hiding topics or threads - you have to go into 'Customise' and move them into the righthand box, then remember to SAVE!

I think you can hide individual threads by clicking on 'Hide this thread' at the top...

I have just taken the plunge and hidden AIBU .... feel so much calmer looking at Active Convos now

I've been a member for about 2 years-ish (I joined when I wanted advice re weaning ds1) and am starting to feel like I'm just growing into MN

I haven't been with MN that long. In fact when my DS1 was born the internet was just being invented. At that time I was a very anxious older mother and I suspect I would have tied myself in knots with all the wealth of conflicting advice on here. Though I don't remember having time to brush my teeth let alone use a computer when they were babies.

I haven't seen the census but I do feel like I'm old enough to be the mother of the majority of posters. Having said that there are several topics I like , and the teenage threads in particular have been helpful.

I didn't know you could "hide" topics. I must admit I have got bored with the same old problems which do seem insurmountable when you have little ones but I have no wish to revisit the traumas of sleep deprivation etc.

I have yet to find another site which comes anywhere near this one though.

ShineOn - we've both been here quite a while... no spats so far! Put it to a vote if you like, but I was here in June 06, which was a year or so before t'other Norma!

Waaaaaaaa I wont can't give up my name, I've had for ages & besides I can't be arsed to think of something new I'm used to getting confused with a different Norma (NormaStanley something I think it is)

I don't know if you do grow out of MN though? I can't see me not logging in when the DC are older, perhaps less but not stopping all together
