What's this about certain Mners being invited to the tenth anniversary party?

Cliquey or what?

How were people chosen? I hope everyone's name was put into a hat and a certain number chosen at random.

I suspect not.

I'm not sure they'll be quiche..its a classy do.

Guttersnipe · 14/02/2010 14:03

So the classiest posters were selected eh?

Who says Moldies is dead?

Whats all this about?

mamazon · 14/02/2010 14:07

well its not just done by the classiest members - i haven't had an invite so i know this to be untrue.

i think that it will be those MNers that have been involved with MN projects. I guess people like MorningPaper ( she does the round up and collated for the book) will be invited because although they are Mners they also have an invested interest in MN.

Im assuming a couple of Journo's were also invited who just happen to be MNers.

StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2010 14:09

oh no

southeastastra · 14/02/2010 14:11

there's a comp isn't there? what do you think they should invite all of us?

Guttersnipe · 14/02/2010 14:14

No sea, they should have asked who wanted to be invited, put the names in a hat and drawn out a certain number.

Though I can see the reason for inviting certain Mners such as MP

Oh I don't know, it just p*ed me off. I am assuming all the Beautiful People will be there and the Plain Janes won't. Same old, same old.

OP posts:
southeastastra · 14/02/2010 14:15

where does it say who has been invited?

Blu · 14/02/2010 14:15

I suspect you are right, Guttersnipe, in thinking not at random.

According the the stickie that was at the top of active convos for ages, I believe that the 10 are being chosen by none less than the poet laureate, on the basis of a haiku.

And people who are part of the team who provide Mn and it's various services.

If I was in charge I might have added the 10 earliest MN-ers still registered and posting.

StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2010 14:16

i ws wondering if lou33 would be going

Blu · 14/02/2010 14:16

Oh, the moaning, the carping, the embitteredness...aaaaargh!

mosschops30 · 14/02/2010 14:20

be honest though would you really want to spend the evening wearing Boden (or insert other dreadful middle aged middle class clothing company), with wedged boots from clarks talking about the merits of BF and BLW????

Thought not i would rather be at home on MN drinking wine

Geez, it's so odd that grown up women get so aerated about a website. That's the journalist, not the OP, btw.

But Meh about the party.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/02/2010 16:13

I think it would be quite nice to go actually
can't remember the last party I went to.

Guttersnipe · 14/02/2010 16:15

Blu, your idea about the ten longest standing still posting Mners was one which crossed my mind too.

No, you are right, I don't want to go (I don't actually live in the south east anyway so it would hardly be possible, but that brings up another old chestnut re the emphasis on the southeast corner of England). But something inside me grates when I read that invites have gone out and you know it is to the same bunch of cronies as always.

Yeah, I was never popular at school either.

OP posts:
muggglewump · 14/02/2010 16:16

I thought it was a competition and you had to write a haiku?

I didn't enter since I don't actually know what a haiku is.

bibbitybobbityhat · 14/02/2010 16:19

I'd like to know what the other 9 memorable moments were on the invite. After all, we provided the ideas for them.

I imagine the Times article journalist (Isabel someone? see I've forgotten already) has been invited in her professional capacity, not because she is a Mumsnetter. I wonder if she's going to go now?

Guttersnipe · 14/02/2010 16:21

I actually think the Haiku competition was a deliberate ploy to ensure that only a certain articulate, clever sort of Mner attended.

You are in good company muggglewump - oh has that extra g always been there?

OP posts:
whomeyesyou · 14/02/2010 16:22

10 people from 850,000 is a little stingy, isn't it? I thought we encouraged people to invite the whole class , not a very good example.

BelleDameSansMerci · 14/02/2010 16:23

Perhaps she wrote the column because she's miffed that she hasn't really been invited?
