whats HQ stance on posters who admit something really bad

ThatVikRinA22 · 18/01/2010 23:30

on another forum i used to use a poster posted openly about beginning a relationship with a prolific child sex offender whilst having a young daughter in the house.

from what i understand the Admin of that site actually grew a pair and passed the details on to relevant agencies. im not sure what the outcome of this was, though i think the decision to do so was the right one.

i am wondering what the stance is on this site as far as remaining anonymous goes if a poster posts something that really warrants action being taken, or where someone is clearly in danger?

Hi Vicar
We have on a couple of occasions been contacted by the police on behalf of social services and have always cooperated. Basically if it's a police matter which the example you've given would be, then our policy is to pass details on.

Click on "contact poster" next to Justines name above, or click on "report the thread".

ThatVikRinA22 · 19/01/2010 20:05

i think this happened to hedgewitch....though it didnt go down too well.

ThatVikRinA22 · 19/01/2010 21:28

tough shit thinks me. didnt go down well with who? sorry but it should happen in some circumstances. i wasnt about when the hedgewitch stuff was happening but anyone who posts what they did NEED social services involvment. otherwise MN would have been complicit in child abuse. nasty, nasty, blood chilling real child abuse.

the thread last night totally did my head in. im a childhood victim of abuse and now im a police officer. how do you post on a thread like that? how do you just go "there there, we understand?"

im concerned that once a poster gets wind theyve done something they cant undo that tall tales get told to undig the hole. im having to steer clear of that thread, i said enough yesterday.

mumsnet walks a fine line between allowing posters to vent in a safe haven and allowing child abuse to continue. thats why i wondered what the official line was. i didnt get an email response though.

He has left Vic, the thread has moved on a lot.

GypsyMoth · 19/01/2010 21:33

oh. that thread from last night.

i'm ex police, was a special like you were, not a regular. but did alot.

i once was put on watch over a murdered child....left dead in a bin liner (paedophile) til everyone arrived, local nurse had found the body in a high rise lift and i was first on scene with a colleague. it bloody changed me....and yes,i decided to leave the specials AND not become a regular.

so i understand your caution and concern

ThatVikRinA22 · 19/01/2010 22:00

giddy - you think?

all seemed a tad quick, i wonder if the OP knew what she had started and decided that when you in a hole you stop digging. i cant shake the feeling that he is probably tucking into his tea while she "updates" us with what we all want to hear. suspicious mind me you see. thats what policing does to you.

tiff - i know what your saying but ive joined the regulars. hope to god i can hack it.

i thought it was a bit quick too, fwiw i think she's being economical with the truth.

ThatVikRinA22 · 19/01/2010 22:08

economical i can live with. lying through teeth to save own skin i cant. cynical arnt i. stands me in good stead though most of the time.

i pray that someone in RL reports to SS.

VicarInaTuTu - just popping in to say sorry you didn't get a response to your reported post last night.

As you can imagine, you weren't the only one to report that thread - by a long way! - and the poor MNHQ-er who was on duty had quite a night of it.

We do try to answer every single reported post (and email) that comes into us but occasionally - and especially on a night like last night - we do slip up and miss one or two.

I think Justine's post here pretty much answers the questions you were asking. If not, or if you have any further concerns, please email us again at [email protected] and I'll make sure you get a reply this time!

ThatVikRinA22 · 19/01/2010 22:51

ok helen, cheers.

ive reported the thread that concerns me, again. thanks for answering.
