because I did a link to a well know website that you might, say buy books or toys on, and rather than coming up with the generic site, it comes up with my site, all logged on with cc details.

I've had the same problem with well known books site.

Get this though. Someone else managed to register as me and access my account details . Turned out that they were, for instance, 'ilovemydog3' but the system let them register as 'ilovemydog'

Apparently first time it ever happened.

Always worries me too, but the URL won't take people to your account stuff, it'll take them to theirs (assuming they've logged into Amazon and still have the cookies on their PC). They won't have your cookies on their machine, see, so won't be able to see your stuff even if they tried.

It only comes up as you logged in for you. Because you are you and have logged in from your machine previously. The rest of us just get a generic link to the site (and in fact mine comes up as me logged in).
