If you click on report instead of add message does it actually report it.

Just clicked to report a completely innocent post by mistake. Quickly clicked off, so have I reported it or not. Don't want to try again!

No - don't worry! If you do it by accident and haven't put anything in your comment then we'd usually email you and ask why you've reported it (unless it's screamingly obvious).
It happens more than you think!
