I'm sorry to do this, I'm sure if I read 2000+ posts I would understand but please could someone explain the DM business to me

Because I thought the DM was a paper we loved to post links to in order to take the piss at its general dreadfulness, particularly the way its editor hates women.

And now it seems there is some sort of tie in? Do they not understand irony?

Is that what is going on? And if so, who thought this was a good idea?

(Surely that is its charm? Makes it sound like something that would be featured in Red magazine!)

PaulDacreEatsBabies · 14/08/2009 23:28

That is the charm but considering the media profile they should be a little bit more savvy. A NQ solicitor who can give basic advice on IP/copywright would cost about 150 quid per hour. Surely they could afford that?

1dilemma · 14/08/2009 23:29

I'm still trying to catch up with this too (can't imagine they would quote me I never say anything interesting ) but why pmsl custy?

TheDMHatesMe · 14/08/2009 23:31

Yy PaulDacre, I agree they need to take legal advice, and I think the whole DM association is very bad for the MN 'brand' (barf).

Flamesparrow · 14/08/2009 23:40

Well this is shitty innit?

I can't see anyone wanting to quote me, but given that my name and my email address match, and that family who I don't want knowing every aspect of my life obv have those.....

Although to be fair, the various family members that I would rather not know certain things tend to read varying better/worse papers anyway.

Apart from my sister... I have no idea what paper she reads, but then, she knows of MN, if she wanted to stalk me she could.

TheDailyMailHatesWomenAndLemon · 14/08/2009 23:58

Just change your posting name to FlameTheDailyMailLetItBurn and you'll be fine...

Possibly.

bronze · 15/08/2009 00:09

bronzethinksthedmarearses · 15/08/2009 23:21

Scummyabdabs I'm liking it

Aitchiswaitingforalegalopinion · 15/08/2009 23:25

they have an interim opinion, which is that it might be dodgy, but are waiting to hear the full thing. no need to be so rude, especially when you're not in possession of the facts.

navyeyelasH · 15/08/2009 23:39

why would mumsnet need legal advice, I followed the firs thread on this before hvaing to go to work and justine (I think it was) says she's cool with it and will try and get the DM to include a MN logo.

Aitchiswaitingforalegalopinion · 15/08/2009 23:43

the answer is contained in the second thread then, one assumes.

TheWolf · 15/08/2009 23:45

I'm too slow and keep missing the journos MN nickname... HQ are far too quick!

TheDailyMailHatesWomenAndLemon · 15/08/2009 23:46

navy, at the time of the first thread Justine had received unofficial legal advice (from her DH) that there was nothing they could do about it. Since then they've talked to MN's actual lawyer, who thinks that there may be.

Aitchiswaitingforalegalopinion · 15/08/2009 23:47

how hard is it to press 'control and f', type in justinemumsnet and flick through justine's posts on a thread?

navyeyelasH · 15/08/2009 23:55

I can't find the second one only the third, do you have a link by chance aitch?

Aitchiswaitingforalegalopinion · 15/08/2009 23:58

sure, hang on. it's in in the news i think.

PaulDacreEatsBabies · 16/08/2009 07:56

Being lectured about rudeness by you is quite funny really Aitch. By the time I posted that comment about "bunting cupcakes" I was in full possession of the facts, having read Justine's posts in just the manner you describe.

The fact that she didn't appear to be aware that the draft new copywright notice gave MN the right to reveal and print on MN or in the books our real names and geographical locations was a bit mind blowing, considering that what was exactly what it said in words of not many syllables.

Aitchiswaitingforalegalopinion · 16/08/2009 08:09

mmm-kay. you didn't seem to be in possession of the facts, i can't think where i would have got that impression. maybe something to do with your having posted a new thread explicitly saying that you needed the DM business explained to you?

and you know, if someone posts 'i'm sorry but' then it's generally because they are about to say something ill-mannered. i note you didn't deny your rudeness, just attacked me personally. as usual. it's getting awfully boring.

PaulDacreEatsBabies · 16/08/2009 08:19

Why should I deny my rudeness? I was rude, for good reason. It is concerning that MN seem to have so little grasp of these issues considering what a massive media presence they have - massive enough for the DM to want to get in on the game, even though they must be aware how much the majority of MNers dislike the DM. They're riding a tiger.

I don't really understand how replying to you when you were the only person who said I had been rude is "attacking you personally, as usual." Self obsessed much? Believe it or not I don't hunt you out. You post on the contentious threads and the busy threads and so do I. We don't seem to agree very much about things, but that is allowed. For every post of yours I respond to, I probably ignore or don't even see 20. Same as I do with any other prolific poster.

donnie · 16/08/2009 08:23

"I think anyone who voted Labour in the last election is complicit in murder"

this is an In the News thread which was started around 2 years ago by the hack in question. If you get a chance to read it before MN deletes this post then you will get the measure of the calibre of this 'writer' - ie total red-top stylee shite.

I hope everyone gets a chance to read the thread though - it's good for a laugh.
