Sorry if this has been asked before - I can't search to find out!
thanks

Hi GreenPenguin. Yes it does still work - I hope!

Are you having trouble with it?

GreenPenguin · 09/08/2009 08:10

Hi - yes. If I type in something to search, it has a big think then re-loads the current page. I'm on IE 8 if that makes any difference...?
thanks

Mine hasn't worked for ages, does the same thing, the advanced search works though

GreenPenguin · 09/08/2009 10:11

thanks - yes, advanced search is OK but chucks up lots of irrelevance too. (Glad it's not just me on the main search, anchovies)

Ah, you were talking about the General search button at the very top, GreenPenguin!

That's yahoo search tool, which you can select to search Mumsnet, Mumsnet Talk or Google - and it's working from this end. Do let us know if it's still playing up for you.

Bleatblurt · 09/08/2009 15:54

My search button at the top doesn't work if I try to use it when in a thread on in a topic. It only works if I am on the main page with all the topics listed or on one of the other main MN pages. Been like that forever.

HelenMumsnet · 09/08/2009 16:07

Really, Butterball? That is odd.

Are you using Internet Explorer too?

Bleatblurt · 09/08/2009 18:04

Yes, I'm using IE.

I always have odd things going on with my MN but I put up with it only because I love you all so much.

Thandeka · 09/08/2009 18:06

I have exact same thing too. IE7 I think.

I have to go into advanced search if I want to search anything- the general search thing doesnt work for me at all.

HelenMumsnet · 09/08/2009 18:08

OK, thanks all - sounds like a glitch we should look into.

Will keep you posted.

GreenPenguin · 28/08/2009 19:23

Tried the basic search today and it now works through Yahoo. Is this what is supposed to happen? (At least I can search now.) thanks!

Our pleasure, GreenPenguin - sorry it took so long.

lynniep · 29/08/2009 13:14

just another note - my search won't work unless I actually click 'search' - using the 'enter' button on my keyboard just produces the same screen.

Furball · 29/08/2009 13:47

me again! - how is the search for more than one word comming along?

ie - if you search for christmas pudding, you don't get all the posts with christmas in and all the posts with pudding in?

You said it was 'on the list' yonks ago.

Pretty please....

Furball · 29/08/2009 13:48

actually it worked for a millisecond a while ago then it reverted back again

HelenMumsnet · 29/08/2009 15:11

I don't have "the list" in front of me today, Furball, I'm afraid - but I will check when I'm back in the office next week.

nannynick · 29/08/2009 20:53

Furball - a workaround for that is to use Google (as google seems very fast at indexing mumsnet threads).

For example: "christmas pudding"

Would be nice though to have Advanced Search able to handle such search queries, as then we can limit the search to specific users, specific dates, specific topics etc.

Furball · 30/08/2009 06:53

Blimey nannynick - thats brilliant! Thank you

nannynick · 31/08/2009 11:05

Furball - I've worked out a way of getting Google to search limited by a date... it's not great though.

Example:
"babysitter" site:mumsnet.com/Talk/ +"Aug-09"

Put the word or phrase in the first set of quotes. Then in the last set of quotes put the Month and Year in Mmm-yy format. It seems to work, though not sure if it picks up every message post.

Furball · 31/08/2009 11:21

gosh Nannynick - maybe you should apply for the post of tech!

nannynick · 31/08/2009 11:32

Oh I couldn't do all that Tech (and the team) do... but would be great to be the Official Mumsnet Beta Tester, testing new 'features' before they are made available to all of Mumsnet. Wonder if Tech would give me a login for the backend system.

GreenPenguin · 03/10/2009 21:01

Hi -
Sorry MN - search is defunct again, And I can't see the advanced search at all.
I don't use this regularly (especially since nannynick's google tip) so I couldn't say how long it's been down again.
Are you aware of the problem...?
thanks

HelenMumsnet · 03/10/2009 22:44

Er, no, we weren't GreenPenguin!

Are you using MN Classic?

nannynick · 04/10/2009 00:16

Advance Search works fine for me. I'm NOT using Classic.
Glad you find my Google tip useful GreenPenguin.

GreenPenguin · 04/10/2009 10:46

umm - I don't know. It's the one that comes up automatically. A bit blue, a bit purple.

Same thing as before with normal search: it does nothing. There's a header for advanced search, but no text box or anything to click.
(IE8 - I'll try with Mozilla later)

thanks!
