Question about surveys

Why do the surveys always ask for email and MN nickname?
Surely you can tell our MN nickname from our email?

It's to make sure you are actually a member - you could just find it on Google and enter without being a member.

so we could just enter our MN name and not our email then?

I suppose so but then if your email address of file is mistyped you might not get your prize!

I just wonder who is collating the responses - do all the sponsors get our full details?

No they don't. They get anonymised results.

Surveymonkey sends out a report at the end of the survey with all the results and separately the contact details I believe.

Don't be worried Helen - I used to organise a lot of online surveys so I know how the blinking things work (you've still got a bug in yours you know where the username field is not named)

Bug? In which survey, whomovedmychocolate? The census or the O2 technology one?

In all the surveys you list, the bit at the end where you ask for nickname and email address, only the email address field is labelled. Now you do state (generally) in the paragraph before that this is what needs to go in there but people don't actually read the forms properly you know. I bet you get loads of people who just submit email addresses?

whomoved..how do you fix it then? both labels show on mine and i think the missing label is only when there're some html code in the question text.

EldonAve - I collate the responses - I just work on market research for Mumsnet - the data is processed for us by a professional bureau who create data tables - no personal details at all are in these, just %s for each Q.

Other Qs: we ask for both username and email just so we know who you are and to try and avoid non members doing the survey. When the survey is closed i send a list of entrants to alexia who looks after comps/prize draws and she sorts out the winners. Once we have the winners details we (normally) send them to the sponsor of the survey who sends out out the prize.
No one elses details are sent to anyone and i destroy the files.

Ann are you using the demographic questions section to put these bits in or a general section? They work slightly differently.

It could be a loading issue actually, if the tag is before the username field it may stop loading on certain browsers (like mine I'm on Safari).

don't use demographic questions, the last one is just 'multiple text boxes'. No tag inserted by me either

Am sure it's a loading issue as I am on explorer and it's fine (and also that bit doesn't have any html in it which is what I'd put it down to before). It's a bit odd.

Ah - use the demographic questions bit - it makes sure you capture the right bits of data but it's preformatted to work on all browsers.

Is interesting though because I know some Windoze users on here who have the same issue - so it can't be my weirdo maccy browser entirely. Also if it was a serving issue, surely the last field would be the one missing because it loads in a linear fashion (ie working it's way down the form), rather than a line absence? I'd email Surveymonkey if I were you and tell them - perhaps it's a buglet they know of and can tell you the workaround. But it's always always missed off mine (can mail you a screen shot if you like?)
