I worked with a health visitor in my area. They give all new mums the web site for 'them' when they do their first meeting with mum and new baby!

bosch · 17/06/2009 22:08

Ah, but have we supped with the Devil (or Mr Cameron to his friends )

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 17/06/2009 22:15

I like Mr Cameron. Top bloke!

northender · 17/06/2009 22:17

Who defines "expert"?

ra29needsabettername · 17/06/2009 22:20

I hate mr cameron so don't want that to be the reason but I find the link very funny

LastOrders · 17/06/2009 22:22

Love this thread/link!!!

Songbird · 17/06/2009 22:23

I'm sorry, Netmums? Who are they?

girlylala0807 · 17/06/2009 22:38

Its the word expert that concerns me...

Songbird · 17/06/2009 23:06

Quite! And the fact that it's the only one given, not one of a selection.

BitOfFun · 17/06/2009 23:16

It's a disgrace ...the government consults us when it suits them, don't they? Justine, did you say something to piss them off?

SueW · 17/06/2009 23:24

Netmums has quite a strong local presence here with regular meet ups in a local cafe and its own facebook page where the organisers ensure regular messages/reminders are sent out to 'members' about lots of local events, not just their own.

It's developed in a totally different way to mumsnet IME. I've belonged to both for eons. I don't regularly visit netmums website although I am a member of their local facebook group.

HelenMumsnet · 17/06/2009 23:32

Hmmm. Thank you for pointing this out to us. We shall cry and stamp our feet till something's done about it very maturely make some enquiries.

muffle · 17/06/2009 23:37

You can see why. A lot of first-time mums probably do want something nice and welcoming with some helpful local info. They get sent here, they could stumble into a vicious fight about greggs sausage rolls or a bizarre conversation about penisy sandals and be scared shitless. MN is great but I don't think it's for everyone.

AitchTwoOh · 17/06/2009 23:39

wasn't this announced some time ago? i thought they were getting money for it? i'm sure there was a thread about it at the time, it was quite a big thing.

paisleyleaf · 18/06/2009 10:06

I think "expert" comes from that they have health visitors, speech and language specialists, relationship counsellors etc posting on their boards and answering members.
It's a different sort of (tightly moderated) site.
