missed it completely

tigana · 19/05/2009 20:39

well, I suppose, if MNHQ are feeling quite risk averse at the moment (whihc seems senisible)...it was sort of listing potential 'attackers'...some amusing, some more worrying and perhaps best approach is actually "do not feed the beast" and ignore ignore ignore tra la la la la...

Meglet · 19/05/2009 20:40

Where did it go? It was in my 'threads I'm on' 20 mins ago. Did it get libellous (sp?).

NotmyELFtoday · 19/05/2009 20:46

tis a mystery!!

OP posts:
policywonk · 19/05/2009 21:05

I think tigana is probably right - it didn't turn nasty but MNHQ being cautious?

ilovemydogandMrObama · 19/05/2009 21:11

Did someone accuse Gina Ford of ignoring a crying thread?

KingCanuteIAm · 19/05/2009 21:34

MN went down and the thread was removed which suggests someone is targeting certain things possibly?

Anyway, they will get bored and go away eventually so I guess ignore, ignore...

AnyFucker · 19/05/2009 21:36

wtf is this all about ?

MerlinsBeard · 19/05/2009 21:37

the thread in question was one with a link to MN blog saying we were under attack and ppl were guessing who and why

JustineMumsnet · 19/05/2009 21:40

Curiously I'm not quite sure which one of us at MNHQ deleted the said thread at this point - which is slightly unusual [paranoid]. I didn't see it myself so no idea if/how it was compromising... But no doubt all will become clear very soon... Will keep you posted.

QuintessentialShadows · 19/05/2009 21:41

Justine, while you are here, dont go!
something odd happened

MerlinsBeard · 19/05/2009 21:41

Maybe it was the HWCBN (Hackers who can't be named)

QuintessentialShadows · 19/05/2009 21:42

While I was reading a thread earlier, I hit the back button to return to where I was (possibly active convos)

I saw the usual stuff at the top, then someting about Velocity server, apache, run time, and a whole lot of code. I was going to email it all to you, but then i copied the email addrees from somehwere, and of course lost it.

MerlinsBeard · 19/05/2009 21:43

ooh i get a terminal velocity message often at mo too (obviously not terminal velocity but i don't know what it really is and it's gone when i refresh)

morningpaper · 19/05/2009 21:44

MNHQ Blog

JustineMumsnet · 19/05/2009 21:46

No have found the perpetrator - was YetMoreTech who was concerned it might inflame matters - discretion the better part of valour etc.

So KingCanute is spot on I think - best to ignore if you can, we're not that interesting, surely?

And of course apologies for any breaks in the service - please bear with us.

KingCanuteIAm · 19/05/2009 21:48

KingCanuteIAm · 19/05/2009 21:48

Maybe they need an anti hacker solution.

Ah. This may be something to do with a loony poster or two who was putting up a lot of surreal gibberish and (very) vaguely threatening statements.
My theory and it is only a theory is that one or more bored teenage boys with computer skills and not enough interest in masturbation are behind this, It's the sort of stuff people used to do in the early days of the internet: pick an innocuous/mainstream talk-heavy site and attack - they'd start off with a discussion or two that got wierder in great leaps, quite often featuring a certain amount of swearing and tasteles 'humour' then there might be hack-attacks...
Basically I don't think there is any need for anyone to be afraid of physical attack or harassment and I doubt it is anything to do with any individual posters: it;s just prats being prats. They will hopefullly get bored and fuck off soon, though I would advise the tech people to make extra sure all firewalls etc are working and if you have a tame hacker, let him/her have a rummage around for malware of any kind.
