I wish there was a way of rating threads...ones to avoid and ones to read.

I missed the whole penguin saga as it didn't really seem that interesting by the title.

You'd have to sort it into categories e.g.

comedy rating
troll rating
viper rating
hun rating

g'wan it'd be fun

Perhaps we could rate it by spelling and grammatical constructions?

Isn't the number of posts effectively a rating?

Admittedly doesn't tell you whether it is popcorn value, bun fight value, nice civil debate value - but it is nevertheless a rating.

Using the penguin thread as an example. From the title I thought it was a bit of a moan about her boyfriend. I never realised it was going to be so funny and it's only because I chanced upon a request for it to be moved to the MN classics that I read it.

It's one of those thing that I know'll never work in practice but it doesn't stop me putting it on my wishlist.

Maybe Tech could do it for a day ('cos he has loads of time on his hands ) and see if it'd work in practice.
