Why does this happen with some people? Have noticed it particularly with SheSellsSeeShells but with some others too.

explain? what happens????

Twims · 20/03/2009 14:49

I didn't notice anything - do you mean repetative posts?

Buda · 20/03/2009 16:44

Maybe it's only me?

If you click on that link and look at the second post, the blue line with the poster's name and the date and time etc is really big. Takes up half the page nearly.

I was wondering that as well.

Buda · 20/03/2009 16:49

Thanks God it is not just me!!!!!! Was beginning to feel a bit odd!

I knew exactly what you meant when I saw the thread title.

Flier · 20/03/2009 17:00

it must be the settings you have, its "normal" for me. Which browser do you use and which mumsnet setting do you use?

PuppyMonkey · 20/03/2009 17:02

I've been getting that all day today...

Fimbo · 20/03/2009 17:06

It's fine for me.

Buda · 20/03/2009 17:15

I use Firefox and new Mumsnet. It doesn't happen for everyone.

I mean it doesn't happen for every poster!

I can't see it on that thread. Do you mean a big blue box/bar thing?

If so (I strongly suspect) it is because her hame is too long to fit alongside the ads on the right.

So it gets shifted below the ads where there is space to have her name and hte Add a message|Report post|contact a poster options all in 1 line.

Buda · 21/03/2009 08:03

Aah - that makes sense SMS! Thanks.

When I view in Firefox (Mumsnet New) it looks fine. When I view in Internet Explorer (Mumsnet New) then it errors:
By BlueCowWondersWhenItsChocTime Fri 20-Mar-09 08:09:26
Is pushed down to below content on right side.
This I think is due to the long user name.
On the old layout, having a long user name didn't cause much of a problem. Under the new layout it causes issues. The soluition may be to limit user name lengths - but some users may not like that.
There is a lack of standardisation still when it comes to the internet - a wide variety of different browsers for example all try to meet certain minimum requirements, but have to adapt things especially when viewing on a mobile device. Think it will be next to impossible to fix this kind of thing for every internet browser version on every different platform (operating system, device).
So best to just ignore it... it's cosmetic. Site still functions which is the key thing.

Hi all, I'll check with tech regarding user name length. I'm in Firefox (Mumsnet New) and it also looks fine.
