This Morning want a couple of Mumsnetters to appear with Carrie and Justine next week... anyone fancy it?

ITV's This Morning programme have invited me and Justine on to talk about the Toddlers book and want to also invite a couple of Mumsnetters to talk about how they got into Mumsnet and what Mumsnet means to them etc.

The date will probably be 4th or 5th Feb, they will need us between 9.30 and 12 and are prepared to pay travel expenses.

Anyone out there interested in snuggling up on the sofa? If you are, please put a bit of blurb about yourself here - how many children you have/how old, how you got into Mumsnet and what it means to you etc - so This Morning can decide who they might fancy inviting. If you do volunteer we may have to pass your email details on to This Morning, in case they want to chat to you, so shout now if you'd rather we didn't do that.

Thanks,

MNHQ

I've been on telly already as KM says.

Don't worry dahling, I was just pontificating

Lovely to see so many old faces on here! I've not heard from lots of posters since, ooooh, before Christmas?

How ironic would it be to have a mouldy go on talking about how great mumsnet is, what it means to them and how there is no other site quite like it? I'd like to see that!

I'm sure there are lots of lovely posters who really would fit the bill, but I'd like to see someone who still posts on Mumsnet. A lot of mouldies no doubt do have a lot to give to Mumsnet, but unfortunately Mumsnet no longer benefits from their advice as they hardly post here anymore.

Perhaps it should be for regular posters?

CreativeZen · 03/02/2009 13:16

From what I've seen there are a number of regular posters who are also Moldies. Are you seeking to exclude only Moldies rather than other regular posters who also post on msn, email and other sites?

Well since the show is all about the benefits of using Mumsnet, it would be nice to have people on there who actually still use Mumsnet, would it not?

I've not seen that many Mouldies who post here regularly and still post over there. I am prepared to be proven wrong, but some of the names on this thread I've hardly seen post at all since the whole thing kicked off.

How could they extol the virtues of Mumsnet when they thought it was so flawed they'd make their own site?
And how can they say they only made that site for privacy reasons when they are more than happy to reveal their rl selves to millions of This Morning viewers?

It wouldn't be a true representation of Mumsnet I don't think. My opinion, that's all.

Rhubarb · 03/02/2009 13:22

sorry KM, I thought you knew I'd been on the telly and was telling me to let someone else have a turn!

Want my autograph btw?

KerryMum1 · 03/02/2009 13:23

I'm sorry, but to me, a lot of the Moldies ARE Mumsnet, whether they post as frequently as they used to or not. I do think that some people need to let this whole Moldies issue go - it's corrosive and it's making people bitter, which is sad.

Tn0g · 03/02/2009 13:25

Lulamama and Squonk would be a good twosome on Phil and Fern's sofa.

Does that sound rude?

CreativeZen · 03/02/2009 13:26

I don't see the two sites as mutually exclusive. I use other sites as well as Mumsnet and I'm sure 99% of other posters do as well. Some of the sites I use are invitation only and closed to outsiders. From what I understand, the moldies site wasn't created as a replacement for MN, more an extra add-on where they could post more personal stuff that wouldn't be accessible by the whole internet. Or have I got that wrong?

So what you're saying is that Mumsnet isn't Mumsnet without Mouldies? That's feeding their fragile egos is it not?

KerryMumbles and Custy would be good! So would lulumama - she's done a lot for Mumsnet.

Dior · 03/02/2009 13:27

I'm sure that lot of moldies still post on here regularly Rhubarb. They probably haven't 'outed' themselves for fear of venom in future posts to them.

I would rather see a semi-regular oldie on TV than a regular poster of one month. Nothing against the new posters BTW, just that an older poster would have more to say about how it affected their experience of being a parent.

Rhubarb · 03/02/2009 13:28

Well Zen, they kept banging on about how Mumsnet wasn't the same, how it had changed, how newbies were ruining it for all of them, then they started to disappear one by one.

Dior · 03/02/2009 13:29

If we are excluding Moldies, would it not be best to also veto the 'Daughters of Mediocrity'? We can't have one rule for one group can we?

So, is there anyone who is not a Moldie or DoM and who is willing to go on TV?

poopscoop · 03/02/2009 13:31

have we found out which day it is on yet?

KerryMum1 · 03/02/2009 13:31

That's not what I'm saying - You're Mumsnet to me, as is Custy but Marina and Bundle are as well. To discount them just because they're also Moldies is wrong IMO.

KerryMum1 · 03/02/2009 13:31

Sorry, that was to Rhubarb.

Rhubarb · 03/02/2009 13:36

But what if they no longer post on Mumsnet? Or if they do, it's so infrequent to be hardly noticeable?

I'm not sure you could go on about how brilliant Mumsnet is, if you post much more on another site that is as controversial as the mouldie site is.

If I left Mumsnet to post on Netmums, but still popped in occasionally, I wouldn't expect to be called upon to sing the praises of Mumsnet, I'd feel like a hypocrite. Some people have left Mumsnet for whatever reasons, they chose to do that, now Mumsnet has other people who have taken their places and they should be given the change to speak on our behalf.

AlistairSim · 03/02/2009 13:45

What's DoM?

KerryMum1 · 03/02/2009 13:45

Well we'll have to agree to disagree - I tend to look to quality rather than quantity for postings tbh. I could be wrong but it seems that a lot of Moldies wanted their site in addition to MN, not as a replacement (although I accept that for some it was most definitely a replacement). I don't think that makes their views on MN any less valid.

Rhubarb · 03/02/2009 13:46

Dept of Ministry?

whitenoise · 03/02/2009 13:46

kerrymum1 - are you not actually KerryMum?

There is a difference between Moldies and MN Oldies and i think you are getting the 2 mixed up

AlistairSim · 03/02/2009 13:47

Dab on Mammaries?

Rhubarb · 03/02/2009 13:48

Kerrymum is now KerryMumbles. I presume the poster knows the name KerryMum is taken which is why her name has a 1 in it.
