Well hopefully the title says it all. There's been a suggestion, and we agree, that as we did with Baby P and the Mc Canns we just have one thread where anyone who feels they still have anything to add on this subject can post and those who'd rather move on can hide it away.

It feels strange to put this thread in site stuff as we are definitely not wanting to encourage further discussion of Moldies (we have presents to wrap too you know ) but we weren't sure where else to put it.

We will delete any new Moldies threads that are started, so please feel free to report them in case we miss any (what with wrapping the presents and all...)

And if you do want to carry on the discussion please remember that Mumsnet's here to make everyone's lives easier and not the reverse, and that Christmas is a time of goodwill to all mumsnetters past, present and future

Thanks,
MNHQ

Quick summary

Some people who have been around MN since the dawn of time felt that the site no longer served their needs.

There was a replica site set up at the time of the She Who Must Not Be Named crisis, so they migrated over to that.

This meant they could leave the cloak of anonymity behind because they were with a small group of people who were all known to them. A troll-free environment. Around 120-150 people went across to this site. Most of them still post on MN.

It upset lots of people for various different reasons:

(a) Because there was a voting system as to who should be allowed in and who not, which absolutely infuriated those who knew they had been blackballed. People felt they had been judged and found wanting
(b) Because of the secrecy involved - people thought it was duplicitous and/or disingenuous
(c) Because it was a bit mean-spirited and not very inclusive

Some people are quite glad that the MNOldies are not around any more because they resented being told what to do on MN.

There - sorry if I have not included any relevant points of view.

On your head be it, quattro

I joined in the middle of the GF debaucle, and Narniagate missed me completely, so I know how you feel!

lou33 · 30/12/2008 10:42

i wonder how long it will be before it all kicks off again now

VanessaParody · 30/12/2008 11:04

I have now invented a fold-out tennis court. Will post to expat in due course.

groan · 30/12/2008 11:04

Fab - thanks for that QC. I missed the She Who Must Not Be Named crisis too as not looked at mumsnet in a long time. Can feel myself being pulled back in though .

Ok, kids on wii for the day, I have a day off work, sod the housework, have put coffee pot on and choccie biccies to hand. Will now plough through this thread for all events, opinions and nuances of latest crisis.

NorthernLurker · 30/12/2008 11:24

Just don'tcome asking for sausages - they all got eaten last night.

I woke up this morning feeling hungover - which would be fine had I drunk - but I don't drink. It couldn't possibly be late night mumsnetting and two (ok three) slices of brandy laced Christmas cake could it? How much of a lightweight am I?

LIZS · 30/12/2008 11:24

"I missed the She Who Must Not Be Named crisis too as not looked at mumsnet in a long time."

As in over 2 years !!

Quattrocento · 30/12/2008 11:25

Groan, there are at least 5 1000+ threads on this in chat as well. So erm a good 7000 posts to keep you occupied for the day.

Fortunately all the threads that didn't make it to 1000 (of which there were many) have been deleted.

NorthernLurker · 30/12/2008 11:30

Groan - can you post your location please - if you really do read all of this somebody will need to go round to your house and feed your kids, polish your loo seat and fluff your pillows. You won't be doing any of that for a good 72 hours

midnightexpress · 30/12/2008 11:31

Nononononono. TVs. No apostrophe. Absolutely not. Whatever next? Greengrocer's. That's what. It's a slippery slope. TV's indeed.

Expat we have a tennis court at the bottom of our road which seems to be made of carpet. The lines are sort of impressed into it, so it dips, and the ball bounces all funny. It's the worst example of a tennis court ever. And I don't even play tennis.

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 30/12/2008 11:31

depends how much brandy was in the cake NL
entirely possible to be drunk on my gran's Christmas cake....she used to "feed" it for months and use nearly a whole bottle of brandy.

Colbeck · 30/12/2008 11:34

Cna I just say I totally disgaree with the suggestion that name changing should be banned.

I think it should be compulsory.

Everyone should have to change their name on a weekly, (or maybe monthly I'm movable on this) basis, so that we take notice only of what poele say and not who is saying it and whther thay are in our gang or not.

I am a hibitual namechanger, specifcially becuase I dislike being 'known' see no need to have 'mates'(on here). It works well for me, others should try it.

I think it is a much helathier way forward for all.

NorthernLurker · 30/12/2008 11:43

Oooh no Colbeck - I like my name - quite by accident it abbreviates to something not that far from my actual name and it makes me feel at home. I have namechanged occasionally if I wanted to ask something non-traceable iyswim but otherwise I don't feel the need. There's nothing NL says on here that I wouldn't say in real life - except I'm a bit less bracing and more cowardly empathetic in real life

Colbeck · 30/12/2008 11:45

I knew no one would appreciate my genuis.

Northernlurker are you the same person as northerner or DrNortherner?

ruty · 30/12/2008 11:45

[alarm at the thought of twelvedaisy's gran 'feeding' her christmas pudding, little shop of horrors style, in the middle of the night]

midnightexpress · 30/12/2008 11:46

POnders NL's real life name

Norla?
Nolu?
Nell?
Neil?
Nl?

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 30/12/2008 11:48

colbeck, would there also be no club threads then in your MNEtopia? People join them so they can build relationships and make RL friends from virtual friends. I don't think there is anything inherently unhealthy in that. We're not all the same and your way wouldn't work for everyone.

NorthernLurker · 30/12/2008 11:50
TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 30/12/2008 11:51

lol ruty.....there used to be a roar from the tim everytime she opened it

sorry colbeck, that post sounded incredibly blunt.......rushing to post before picking up the crying baby!!!

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 30/12/2008 11:53

tim?.....tim? no it didn't have a name, I meant tin

NorthernLurker · 30/12/2008 11:56

Don't try to get out of now - we all know your Grandma had a cake called Tim that all the family had to bring an bozze laden tribute to or it would rise out of it's lair (known locally as The Tin) and devour all in it's path. I'm just surprised you've managed to keep it quiet this long.

MumofBaby · 30/12/2008 12:00

I'd like to apologise for being an utter bitch yesterday. I had some bad news, and that, mixed with PMT made me pretty much take it out on this thread, just because it'd caught my attention at that very second

I am sorry.

I genuinely don't care either way about the whole moldies thing.

Haven't read through, so hope it's all died down and become amicable again.

StealthPoHoHoHo · 30/12/2008 12:00

NL you lightweight

groan · 30/12/2008 12:01

Lol - can someone come round and do the polishing, childminding etc anyway .

Yes - it was a 2 year absence . RL suddenly went in to overdrive!!!

Ok, if I put 'she who must not be named' into search box, will I get update on that [furiously rearranging all plans for next few days as I type]?

StealthPoHoHoHo · 30/12/2008 12:01

sorry to hear that MumOfBaby, hope you are feeling better today
