If you (still) feel the need to discuss Moldies, please do it here so folks can hide this if they want to.

Well hopefully the title says it all. There's been a suggestion, and we agree, that as we did with Baby P and the Mc Canns we just have one thread where anyone who feels they still have anything to add on this subject can post and those who'd rather move on can hide it away.

It feels strange to put this thread in site stuff as we are definitely not wanting to encourage further discussion of Moldies (we have presents to wrap too you know ) but we weren't sure where else to put it.

We will delete any new Moldies threads that are started, so please feel free to report them in case we miss any (what with wrapping the presents and all...)

And if you do want to carry on the discussion please remember that Mumsnet's here to make everyone's lives easier and not the reverse, and that Christmas is a time of goodwill to all mumsnetters past, present and future

Thanks,
MNHQ

Golly - excellent christmas present pag. I got a lovely bracelt but alas my wrists are tres bony as in large boned and back it must go.

CaptainUnderpants · 29/12/2008 18:52

I really cant be bothered to read nearly 2000 messages on the subject , just wanted to catch up on what has been mentioned in the media.

If old ground is being gone over and over then so be it , come off MN and do something else if it causes you too much distress.

holidaywonk · 29/12/2008 18:53

LOL cat. No idea why you've posted it, but LOL.

bananaknickers · 29/12/2008 18:53

Wished I had said fuck alot on my post further down. I could have been quoted in the paper and been famous .

Flihgtattendant · 29/12/2008 18:55

Lolol at 'Ive killed a hippy'!!! I love that sketch

Captain pants - well, I've read all of it. All of it. I am exhausted and I read most of it a week ago.

It is distressing, you won't find out a clear version now unless you read the lot, i think. But like people say it isn't up to me what people write about. I can always go and do something else. But i do think everyone ought to be made to read it all if they are that bovvered.

Flihgtattendant · 29/12/2008 18:56

Unless i get special rights by being quoted in the telegraph?

Tortington · 29/12/2008 18:56

hunker where did that come from!

yes she did mention it on that thread, but according to moldy information, it wasn't the first time it had been mentioned on mumsnet.

Hunker i wrote my post in the belief that the previous poster i was refering to, was wrong.

thats all.

...it was the circle of life thing...

Also I was still worried that MP was going to post something about shoving stuff down the toilet, and wanted to head her off.

MrJustAbout · 29/12/2008 18:58

banana - the only thing that anyone can guarantee in all this mess is that if you'd said fuck more you wouldn't appear in the paper.

Your words might but somehow the journalists would find someone else entirely to pin them on ...

pagwatch · 29/12/2008 18:58

Flihgtattendant · 29/12/2008 18:58

MrJustAbout · 29/12/2008 19:01

Hello Flihgt,

Scanning this so my wife doesn't feel that she has to ...

We got a lot of use out of that chair - thanks.

mazzystartled · 29/12/2008 19:01

hear hear rhubarb

the moldies site will never be mumsnet. i lurk and post and lurk and post here because i am interested in knowing what a wide spectrum of different people have to say, people who i might never come across in real life, hell - even people i completely disagree with, and the odd troll. moldies is a bunch of old mates getting together for a chinwag. it's a completely different thing and its limited membership will limit what it is capable of. i can't get upset about it per se, but i am sad that people's feelings have been hurt by the whole frenzy it has caused.

pooka · 29/12/2008 19:01

Well basic gist is that other site was set up originally when there was some suggestion that mumsnet might be shut down. During the GF saga.

Then in october ish there was apparently discussion on a facebook group made up mostly of old-timers about reactivating said site for the use of some old timers and friends to chat in privacy without being googleable and subject to trolling.

Said site was reactivated, but too clonky for easy use and littlelapin was asked to tech it to try and improve the useability.

Initially there were discussions about who might be invited to join the group, but some moldies were uncomfortable with the open threads discussing mumsnetters, so that was changed to a secret ballot set up where moldies could nominate potential future moldies, and then existing moldies would email I think Twiglett if they wanted to veto said person.

There was at least 1 recruitment session in that way but there hasn't been any recent recruitment. None envisaged for the future either.

THe OP I linked to was started by Twiglett who was hurt at comments from MNHQ in their blog. During the course of that thread regular mumsnetters who had not realised that the private forum existed, realised that it did. Some were very upset, particularly at the way in which the moldies were recruited and the private/secret nature of the site.

There is some dispute about whether the private site is or is not like mumsnet. Some moldies say it absolutely isn't and some say it absolutely is. It has topics like mumsnet i.e. style and flouncer's corner.

That's as much as I can manage now but is a basic summing up of the hoo-ha.

CaptainUnderpants · 29/12/2008 19:01

I am really not that bovverred enough to trawl through it all.

Some posters have kindly enough answered my questions.

Now back to my life ... time to lick the kids off the Wii

I am sure MN will recover from this and due to publicity ( good or bad ) it will atract some newcomers and it will keep evolving.

pagwatch · 29/12/2008 19:03

ROFL at "time to lick the kids off the Wii"

Can I borrow that CU

CaptainUnderpants · 29/12/2008 19:03

Thank you pooka

Flihgtattendant · 29/12/2008 19:03

Oh wicked, I am glad about that. (or should that be justabout that)

sorry am descending into my evening sillyness.

Tell her she is missing rien. I hope she has some chocolate and a whisky to hand. Or whatever she is partial to. I expect there was a fair bit of revving over the festive bit.

Lulumama · 29/12/2008 19:04

see, for me the secret ballot is just such a kick in the teeth.

to be judged without your knowledge, and then to be found lacking , it's just nasty

for me, it is the thing that makes this whole business stick in the craw. there is no nice way to say 'people were talked about in secret and judged and some were judged as not being good enough/ the right sort for Mouldies'

it is frankly, inexcusable.
