Why is the site taking soooo long to respond to my clicks tonight?

it is 11.51 in the morning .. not a peak time .. still slow to load threads .. took about 90 seconds (sorry wasn't timing) to load this particular thread on an 8mg broadband connection

Thanks for the numbers Twiglett - as I mentioned before, specifics do help.

First thing to remember is that "not a peak time" doesn't mean necessarily that the server isn't busy. There are things it has to, for example, indexing, that don't relate to the number of members that are using it at that moment. In fact, we deliberately do those things at non peak times. That being said, the server wasn't very busy at 11:52.

I've just tried loading this thread repeatedly (about 20 times), on two completely different networks in two different locations, and it takes about 3 seconds or so.

Try it again and if it is still 90 seconds let me know and I'll investigate further what could be causing your particular slow down.
