Maclaren buggies - have they changed the breaks

Hi all,
Was after some advice on strollers. Am busy updating our latest review of lightweight buggies. We have hundreds and hundreds of reviews of Maclaren buggys many of which point out how tough the breaks are to operate but someone just mentioned to me that the Maclarens have a completely new button system that works much better. Can anyone confirm this and if so how are the new breaks?

brakes not breaks

i bought a new techno xt last year but i think it's of 2003 vintage. previously we had a 2001 vintage techno and the brakes were indeed v difficult to operate. brakes on this newer maclaren are a vast improvement, far simpler to use (i barely used the brakes on the older techo, they were so fiddly): yes, you just click down on a sizeable button thing with your foot.

oops yes brakes - sorry - been on this bleedin' computer too long today - going brain dead! Thankyou bakedpotato - what about the Quest/ Volo/ Triumph anyone?

Hi I've got a new volo the brakes are like the old ones side kick IYKWIM. I think that they have changed the Techno's though.

I bought a Quest in summer 2004 and the brakes are the 'kick them to the side then give up' version. They work sometimes, but I'd never leave a buggy on its brakes anyway.

Thank you Sophie10 and Hunkermunker. So it looks like just the Techno has the new brakes, which makes sense from the reviews. Any with a Triumph who can confirm?

Your volo has brakes? Mine doesn't Bought my volo autumn 2003. Perhaps they've changed.

Don't forgot the Vogue, though you don't see so many around but I prefer mine to my friends techno. I bought mine in Oct 2003, don't know whether it was the up to date version but it has brakes on it that you just push down to lock click on each back wheel. Never had any problems with these and they have taken a good bashing with no problems. Some people may say they are not the smoothest to use but it depends how critical you are being but I'm very happy with mine.

I had an old techno and the brakes were awful. Now have a new one and they're a vast improvement.

Thanks dysonboy and Sponge - so looks like it is just the Volo with the tricky breaks then - Uwila I thought mine didn't have any for ages but it turns out they are there - took another Volo owner to locate them for me though and I hardly ever use them because they are such a pain to put on.

My Quest (bought Feb 2004) has the rubbish brakes, but my Maclaren Twin Traveller (bought in January) has great ones that are dead easy to use. Can't tell you if they've always been like this though because it's my first double.
