"Watching" a thread

tech · 08/02/2005 07:59

If you want to monitor or watch a thread or list of threads, you can now do so. Click the "watch" link by the thread title in either active conversations, or on the thread list, or at the top of the thread itself. To look at threads you are watching, click on the "Threads I'm watching" link at the top of any page. You'll see a quick snapshot of the last message that was there when you clicked "watch" and any others that have been added since. If you want to "reset" a watch so that next time you check you only see newer messages, click "reset watch", or just click watch again in the thread list.

Sorry, badly explained, but very simple.

Love,
Tech

That's clever! Thanks tech!

Twiglett · 08/02/2005 08:33

That's so clever .. thanks

see you'll never be replaced by ol' frenchie (even if you really really want to be )

anorak · 08/02/2005 08:36

How long does it last? Is it 4 days like 'threads I'm on'?

beansprout · 08/02/2005 08:37

Fab! Thanks tech

fisil · 08/02/2005 09:22

excellent - I was thinking yesterday how useful something like this would be, and assumed it would be impossible!

Marina · 08/02/2005 09:26

We love you too Tech. Thank you very much for this!

Furball · 08/02/2005 09:36

Oh no, I can't get it to work! If I 'click here' to add this thread to a watch list at the top of a thread, (next to add a message) I go into another thread called $topicname - ???? What am I doing wrong?

Flossam · 08/02/2005 09:47

Me too furball. Am I being blonde?!

tech · 08/02/2005 09:58

No, it was me being a fool....

RTKangaMummy · 08/02/2005 10:01

if you click on active list it works

tech · 08/02/2005 10:06

They should all be ok now. Have made it say "add watch" instead of "watch" to make it clearer. Was going to use a little picture, but couldn't think what of. Hmm. Binoculars, glasses, magnifying glass? none quite right.

It's fab and I can see how to unwatch something now, thanks tech.

Flossam · 08/02/2005 10:48

A pair of eyes with long fluttery eyelashes tech!!

Gwenick · 08/02/2005 11:34

That's fantastic - just noticed it now and will be really useful

Kayleigh · 08/02/2005 11:35

I'm sorry to be the voice of dissent but I hate what the "add watch" thingy has done to the active conversations page. It looks a right mess. As the add watch option is also under the actual thread - which seems to me to be the sensible place to put it, does it need to be on active conversations too ??

Is it just me ???

bundle · 08/02/2005 12:57

no, Kayleigh, you are not alone , it makes the active conversations page look far too busy and messy. yuk.

RTKangaMummy · 08/02/2005 13:13

my vote is that I like it

Thanks

Kayleigh · 08/02/2005 14:49

phew, thanks bundle

I wasn't saying that I don't like the feature - I really really do . It's great. I just think it's a shame it makes such a mess of the active conversations page and it is overkill having it on there as well as on each thread.

WigWamBam · 08/02/2005 14:55

I agree with you too, Kayleigh, I like the feature itself but it looks really messy and confusing.

PicadillyCircus · 08/02/2005 14:59

I think active conversations looks a bit of a mess as well.

But like the feature

Tinker · 08/02/2005 15:07

I think it's fab and I'm a resistant-to-change type. The Active Conversation bit will look familiar soon enough

bundle · 08/02/2005 15:10

maybe it could be changed to a smaller font? or a symbol with explanation at the top/bottom of page?

spots · 08/02/2005 15:25

...or maybe if 'add watch' was in a different colour it would define it as separate from the thread title?

Joolstoo · 08/02/2005 15:29

very distracting imo

Kayleigh · 08/02/2005 18:34

tech - what do you think ?
