Ann Summers ads ( again)

There have been threads before about the ads for Ann Summers lingerie which many pp really are uncomfortable with.
But the latest ones for their Sex Toys are actually just downright unpleasant. Fair enough women buy sex toys. Nothing wrong with that. But do we really need the erotic imagery of these latest ads on Mumsnet?

I've included a screen shot of the advert in question. It's currently under review. I think it would certainly prove a point if the image taken from the MN site itself isn't allowed!
Edited to say i see it has been allowed.

Seriously? There’s nothing offensive about that ad, I was expecting vibrators and butt plugs.

Iloveeverycat · 09/08/2026 14:20

An ice cube!

Pleasedontdoitagain · 09/08/2026 14:23

Well actually vibrators and butt plugs etc are usually what feature in the ads. I don't have a problem with them. They are factual illustrations of the sex toys available.
It's the porn influenced erotic photo I find inappropriate.

Hi @Pleasedontdoitagain

Thanks for raising this, and I understand. That's not the kind of imagery we want on the site either. We can control which advertisers and ads run, so I'm going to look into how we stop these particular ones showing.

If you happen to have the link the ad takes you to, that'd help me block it at the source.

Thanks!

Thanks for your response.
If I click on the shop now button on the ad it takes me to this page:

Hi @Pleasedontdoitagain

Brilliant, thank you! That's exactly what I needed. I've blocked any ads linking to that page, so you shouldn't see those ones again. If it does pop up again, just let us know and we'll take another look.

Thanks again for your help with this!

@MaxSMumsnet
Thanks for the update and the action you have taken.

@MaxSMumsnet
The ad is still cropping up on most threads.

The image is still appearing.

Tbh it's having the effect of making me limit my use of MN. Whereas I have always been in the habit of generally viewing all the new threads that appear in the topics I follow I am now scrolling past most of the new threads and being very selective about those I actually look at because the advert with this image just keeps appearing on most threads and, quite frankly, I just don't want to see it.

Hi @Pleasedontdoitagain

I'm sorry this is still showing.

I have blocked this advertiser at our end, but ads like this one often follow people around based on the browsing data stored in your browser, so it can keep appearing even after we've blocked it. Clearing your cookies should reset that and stop it reaching you. It's quick to do in your browser settings, usually under Privacy, then clear browsing data, then cookies.

Could you give that a try and let me know if it's still showing afterwards? If it is, that tells me it's coming through a different route and I'll dig further.

Thanks for bearing with me on this, and sorry again for the hassle.
