Painfully slow page loading

As in, so slow I have to open every new thread or new page on a thread by using a new tab. If I try to stay on one tab it simply does not load at all, just freezes entirely after 2-3 minutes. Been happening for about a week now and no sign of it fixing itself.

Windows 11 laptop with Chrome, everything is updated to the most current versions.

I've had this too! Thought it was my internet being slow but realised it's only on MN. Not a problem using the app.

Hello @BearSoFair and @Thumbtwiddler thanks for posting. Could you let us know whether you’re logged in or logged out when it happens, whether it’s affecting all threads or just certain ones, and roughly when it started? It would also be really helpful to know whether the page eventually loads or freezes completely, whether opening links in a new tab always works better, and whether you noticed any particular ad loading just before it slowed down or froze. A screenshot or short screen recording would be really useful too, if you’re able to send one.

I'm always logged in and it seems to be all threads across various sections (AIBU, chat, site stuff, general health etc). New tabs do seem to always help, it can still be slow but doesn't freeze like it does if I try to keep to one tab which does the little loading spinning circle (not sure that's the technical term!) before just turning to a black page from the address bar down to the task bar. So my whole system doesn't freeze if that makes sense, it's just the page on Chrome. No issues using MN on my phone (android) it seems to only be when I use my laptop.

I should also add that even when I post a message, the page doesn't automatically refresh with my post at the end, I have to go to the address bar and manually refresh.

Me too. It has become so clunky that the site is almost unusable. It happened all yesterday and is persisting today. I am logged in and it happens on all threads.
