You CAN hide threads WITHOUT opening them first.

Just tried it whilst in active convo's.

I'm using Mumsnet Classic and the word/link "hide" IS visible at the end of each thread. Click it and the thread goes.

So if it's offending you - hide it.

I'm on MN Classic but can't see the hide thing. Only at the top when I open thread. I still read my threads upside down though so I open and hide without reading usually. (Although confess to sometimes having a peek at who OP is and tutting)

TheArmadillo · 23/06/2008 20:39

yep - but if the thread title is horrific then you see the thread title before you hide it.

It then flashes up on the top of your screen.

DoodleCantona2U · 23/06/2008 20:41

I appreciate that but does every one go through each topic or do they just have a quick scan through the ones they are interested in and then jump to active convo's.

With the best will in the world, the In the News topic is going to have some dire news items. It's the nature of the news, surely?

After they put the 'hide' button at the end of each thread title, some people complained that it looked bad, so now you have to set it up so that it appears.
Go to Customise Talk board and under 'Active Conversations and Searches' you will see
Put "hide" link on Active Convs? - change it to Yes & save. Then you'll be able to see 'hide'

Flamesparrow · 23/06/2008 20:47

The titles are still read by you before you know to hide them though.

Is it really that hard to put "sensitive news story" as a title?

MehgaLegs · 23/06/2008 20:51

Is it really, really tiny LL? I can't see it although I do remember seeing it in the past.

Is it possible that I have pressed a "hide the hide button" key?

I shall check my settings.

Hulababy · 23/06/2008 20:53

I still dont want to have to read a graphic thread title in the first place though.

fishie · 23/06/2008 20:54

i don't have that. am using firefox, would that be why lapin?

Flamesparrow · 23/06/2008 20:55

I have it and I'm firefox - check your "customise talk board"

Rustybear explained how to put it back, if you have hidden your hide button .

lou33 · 23/06/2008 20:57

i have firefox and can see the hide option

MehgaLegs · 23/06/2008 21:00

Done - am now hiding.

DoodleCantona2U · 23/06/2008 21:05

I know and fully take on board that reading them in the first place is unpleasant but life can be unpleasant. News stories are often unplesant.

I think saying "sensitive news story" is a good idea but if you don't post often, you might not know that's the done thing around here.

Also, as soon as i see summat like that, I have to take a look, as do many others....so will it achieve owt?

It's happened before

2shoes · 23/06/2008 21:13

well I have tried all ways to hide the sodding threads. (I don't want to hide the topic)

RustyBear · 23/06/2008 23:37

Did you remember to save your changes 2shoes?
