Settings/account icon disappears

The little person icon in the top right corner has disappeared. It flicks up momentarily if I change to a new page but not long enough so that I can click on it to change settings or log out or anything.

This screen shot shows where it has disappeared from - next to the ‘search’ and ‘start thread’ icons.

This is happening on my mobile and Mac where I use DuckDuckGo and my work laptop where I use Chrome.

Easy solution

On the phone, go to the homepage where you have the list of all topics.
On the line Talk> talk homepage you will find on the right a down arrow. It opens a short menu where you have on the bottom lefr “customise”. It opens the settings page. Click on “more settings” down arrow and you can change name, read notifications and so on.

Except the down arrow icon is missing, as shown in my screenshot.

It might be a problem with DuckDuckGo - similar happened to me. Check if it's the same using another browser.

Apologies, you can get to the account settings via several clicks on that arrow, although it’s not at all intuitive and I wouldn’t have worked it out if you hadn’t explicitly pointed it out.

But why does the account icon appear momentarily and then disappear? Is it something you have to pay for now?

Not sure why, and it is two clicks. Might have been something on MN’s side to discourage DuckDuckGo as it used to work like any browser.

As some posters have mentioned, DuckDuckGo’s browser and privacy settings can block or restrict certain scripts and content that our site relies on to function fully. Because of that, some features may not work as intended. Unfortunately, we’re not always able to replicate or resolve those issues from our side.

However, you mention that you're also sing Chrome on a laptop. Is the problem manifesting in exactly the same way there? And do you have any ad blockers downloaded on that? Sometimes we find people have accidentally downloaded that kind of software and don't realise it's there, so that's worth checking too.

Looks like it is something I‘ll have to put up with as I am going to carry on using DuckduckGo but at least I have a workaround thanks to @ILoveDuckDuckGo .

The Chrome version is on my work laptop so I will have to wait till next week to see what the deal is there.
