Archived links displaying as HTML instead of clickable URLs

MN has a terrible habit of publishing the html of links to archived content, meaning they look 'suspicious' and often are not clickable.

Even more oddly, posting a shortened url still results in the html of the archive address.

This isn't even consistent - sometimes the whole clickable url appears amongst the code, sometimes only the source part is - which defeats the purpose of posting archived copies of paywalled content.
