Mumsnet app burning through iPhone battery again

An hour and 40 mins on Mumsnet over several visits today has burnt through 51% of my battery power. Have there been recent updates to the app? We’ve had this problem before.

iPhone 16, most recent iOS

Same! Though it’s iPhone 17 pro max. I thought I had a dodgy battery again!

Tarkan · 13/05/2026 00:12

I was thinking this earlier today. I had a hospital appointment and was using my phone just quickly in the waiting room. My battery went down so quickly by the time I left the appointment and tried to phone DH so I could go meet him I thought my phone was going to die before I found him. And I’d only been browsing MN for around half an hour max before my phone was put away in a locker for an hour.

My iPad battery battery too.

HappyAsASandboy · 13/05/2026 03:15

My iPhone too. Just used Mumsnet for an hour or so and it has used about 40% of my battery charge.

iPhone 13 mini

It makes my iPhone 15 heat up to a fairly ridiculous temperature too.

ALittleBitofWensleydale · 13/05/2026 06:15

My iPad gets really hot when on Mumsnet.

Boopybop · 13/05/2026 06:17

This is really interesting. I’ve noticed that my battery has been running out lately - hadn’t made the connection but will monitor when I use this app!

There’s a known issue with iPhone 15’s running too hot, but especially since the iOS 26 update.

Morning evveryone. Can we ask precisely which version of the app you're using? You can find it by opening the app and then opening the profile menu in the top right hand corner. You'll then be able to see the version number at the bottom of the menu. Thanks!

Tallisker · 13/05/2026 10:27

Version 45.3.5 for me

45.3.5 on iOS26.4.2 (iPad Air2).

45.3.5

45.3.5. iPhone 13 on iOS 26.4.2

hellospring26 · 13/05/2026 14:25

45.3.5.

Phone also gets incredibly hot, it’s not just the battery drain

ButterYellowFlowers · 13/05/2026 14:26

I’m pretty sure that’s your phone… not the app

It only happens when I use Mumsnet.

CrushingOnRubies · 13/05/2026 15:10

App Version 45.3.5

i thought my battery was going quickly last night following the Eurovision watch along thread.

ScaryM0nster · 13/05/2026 15:11

It’s the same hang the browser too.

GinandGingerBeer · 15/05/2026 12:26

Same. Phone is getting incredibly hot 🔥

HoldMyWine · 15/05/2026 12:31

It’s probably the extra energy spent on the annoying Amazon pop ups

ILoveDuckDuckGo · 15/05/2026 23:51

Switching to DuckDuckGo solved the overheating and ads.
Everyone who is experiencing these issues, download the browser, test using MN on it, and you won’t come back.

It’s happened with multiple phones over the years though. And only Mumsnet

aquitodavia · 16/05/2026 08:00

I'm on a Google pixel and I've noticed my battery massively draining in the last week, though on the browser.

Fair enough, I was only mentioning it in case it helped someone as I have the same issue with my iPhone 15. And weirdly it’s never once run hot whilst on Mumsnet (the app), but when I’m out in laying Pokémon Go it’s a nightmare for it.
