Mumsnet ads stopping music

ChocHotolate · 28/04/2026 15:19

I often like to listen to music as I scroll Mumsnet. However anytime any ad appears in the text, the music is immediately shut off and does not restart. This is even if the ad has no sound.
Can this be fixed pls?

Ha! The same happens when I’m listening to the radio on my phone whilst scrolling here. It’s deeply annoying - by the time I’ve clicked the radio on again half a dozen times I’m about ten minutes behind what’s actually being broadcast.

Hello @ChocHotolate that doesn't sound right - we're going to look into this now. Could you let us know what ad it was?

In the mean time, you could try turning off autoplay in your browser settings and see if that is a temporary fix.

  • On iPhone/iPad (Safari): Settings → Safari → Auto-Play → Never Auto-Play, or use the “aA” menu in the address bar and change it under Website Settings
  • On Android (Chrome): Settings → Site settings → Media (wording can vary slightly by device)

Hi Becky,
sorry for the delay replying, I haven’t had much time for scrolling and music last 2 days.
Its happening today with the Jet2 advert
I use the apple app so the above doesn’t work for me sadly

I have the same thing on the iOS app. I think it’s the banner ad at the top of the page - whenever it changes to a new ad, it stops whatever I’m listening to.

ChocHotolate · 01/05/2026 22:23

@imaravenGRONKGRONKyes that could well be it. I’ve had trouble working out exactly what was causing it

It’s driving me mad. And off MN.
I use the app and it doesn’t happen with other apps.
please can you get it sorted as none of the above advice is working!

Yes it has started happening to me too when I'm listening to audiobooks.
