My MN browsing experience - in screenshots

Trying to kill time / distract myself from worrying health diagnosis, so go onto trusty MN (through iPhone on Safari). Click on random thread for lighthearted relief, but only the first 2 posts load. Give it a couple of minutes, nothing else appears, just endless nothingness.

Undeterred, I go back and click on another thread. This time, only one post loads, before endless nothingness. Mildly irritated, I click back again. The screen goes blank (not much different tbf), but the search bar optimistically shows the new page is loading…loading…loa…oh hang on, it’s finished loading. Except…there’s nothing on the screen? I hit refresh. Nothing. No loading, no content.

I’ve spent 12 minutes of my life being frustrated in my quest for distracting content, plus the further 5 it’s taken me to write this. And now that MN has failed me (again, because this is my experience pretty much every day) I’ll head over to Insta instead.

@mnhq can you PLEASE resolve the browsing issues on your website?!

Yep.
*Add constantly crashing when you are typing.
*Typing but nothing happening whilst ‘saving draft’ is ticked then, all of a sudden, your keypad starts hitting the keys without you touching it and then types the things you were typing 2 minutes ago into the message box.
*Not forgetting the huge ads that take over the screen and mean you can’t see a thing and you can’t get rid of, so you just give up and go on TikTok or insta instead.

It will be the same old stock response we’ve received the last couple of years ‘MN cannot replicate these issues’ 🙄

Omg is the typing thing a MN issue?!? I had assumed it was my phone getting old, but it’s only 2 years old and come to think of it I haven’t seen it happen anywhere else 🤔

We are looking into this - and our apologies for the annoyance.

Here to add to the frustrated cries re: the glitches uselessness of the bookmark function. Totally ineffective and pointless. Screen just jumps around all over the page with huge adverts (that have no relevance to me) that take over the screen. When I refresh I am never taken back to my bookmark. Pointless. And annoying. Grudgingly I cannot disagree that Insta gives an infinitely better user experience.

And no @BeckyAMumsnet I am not sending you screenshots. Try using the site and see for yourself.

I use the app now, specifically because of the website issues. Always thought it was my phone but I never have any issues with any other website

@ThisSiteIsAGlitchyShitShow thanks for the screenshot. We removed that ad a week ago and so you shouldn't see it now.

But it will no doubt be replaced by another one that will be just as bad 🫠 it is honestly only this website that has this many issues - I constantly assume it’s a WiFi problem, only to find it’s the same on 5g and other websites are fine to browse on either.

I’ve just scrolled down to press post on this and the blue bar that’s supposed to be along the bottom is stuck in the middle of the screen with everything scrolling behind it…

I fully believe all the loading/freezing issues are caused by the ads on this site.

I got fed up a year ago after my phone kept getting raging hot within minutes of being on here - with all the freezing, reloading…and adverts everywhere. So I paid for premium.

No ads and no issues…ever.

I hate paying to use MN. But it was either that or give it up.

Oh that’s interesting, if a bit depressing! It doesn’t feel like a solid marketing ploy though, I’m not sure I’d want to pay for a poor product in the hope that that would fix it. I’ve never been too sure what Premium provides that makes it worth the money - basic functionality seems a stretch for something called Premium 😄

I got this this morning - mobile site on Android phone.

I have never used an ad blocker.

The only way I could get rid of it was to shut the tab and then reopen.

@BeckyAMumsnet Still haven’t fixed the issue ? MN on iPhone on Safari and Chrome is completely unusable. MN on iPad Safari works fine.

It’s not working fine on my safari on iPad.
Im still getting loads of glitches-have done ever since they started with the blasted ads. Constantly loading and reloading for me this morning or shooting up to the bottom of the page then going blank, without me even scrolling!

This is awful for me too. Endless white screen after the first post or two (if I’m lucky). I’m also using Safari on an iPad.

@Seeline we've just seen your post about the adblocker message. Has this just started happening recently? It might be that you have a browser extension triggering this. Could you check your browser extensions and see if there's an ad blocker sneaked on there? It may not be something you've willingly downloaded.

Unusable this evening. I started waiting for this page to load at 6:20 but didn’t screen shot until 6:23. I gave up waiting at 6:32.

I don’t have Adblockers. I wish I knew how!
