I think Mumsnet should apologise for the censorship of people's opinions about the genocide in Gaza?

I think Mumsnet should apologise for the censorship of people's opinions about the genocide in Gaza? (Closing threads in AIBU about Israeli crimes against humanity)

OP posts:
MyThreeWords · 05/04/2026 13:30

Not sure which threads you are referring to, but I'm pretty sure that MN would be deleting them not in order to censor a particular set of opinions, but because of rule breaking and the sheer nastiness of turning atrocities and war into self-righteous obsessive endless functionless chat-fodder.

SpringIsCome · 05/04/2026 13:31

So why did the Ukraine AIBU threads not get deleted?

OP posts:
AliceNotInChains · 05/04/2026 13:32

Is there not a Gaza board? Topics that people tend to bang on about a lot get there own boards usually.

SpringIsCome · 05/04/2026 13:41

Really? there are childcare, teaching and employment AIBU active threads at moment, why are they not deleted?

Clafoutie · 05/04/2026 13:43

Not related to this specific topic, but in terms of more careful monitoring, I think they need to look at some posts on both side of the trans/women’s rights debate. There have been some horrifically hateful posts from both sides, though I have to say, it seems more so on the women’s rights side. It has meant that some of those debates have become so toxic you are put off from trying to make any meaningful, reasonable contribution.

Marylou2 · 05/04/2026 13:48

I hope it's because they want to avoid certain posters seeing it as an opportunity to voice their appalling antisemitic views.

Agreed. I’m amazed by what they let stand. It’s disgusting

gamerchick · 05/04/2026 13:51

Keep them out of AIBU, stick them in the board set up for it, so nobody can see you lot asking for videos of dead babies and they might stay up

plims · 05/04/2026 13:52

You are being disingenuous, OP.

I agree with you about the atrocities that are happening in Gazza. We actually are able to discuss them on MN, as long as the discussion is respectful. The only threads that have been deleted are the ones where some posters have strayed into racism and antisemitism.

Very possibly.

The Gaza threads seem to attract all of the anti-Semitic and the Islamophobic trolls, fighting over who can be the most offensive and dehumanising.

stomachamelon · 05/04/2026 13:53

@tobee@Marylou2 also agree.

SpringIsCome · 05/04/2026 13:54

Do you think criticizing the Israeli government policies, such as the occupation of the West Bank, clearance of southern Lebanon (including threatening Christians who hide Muslims in their homes) or the treatment of Palestinians, is
antisemitic?

Perhaps you’d like to post links for those posts?

Me too.

I wonder if this thread could be moved to Site Stuff. MN actually monitor the threads on there, whereas they will only see this one if someone reports it.

My own opinion? MN runs this site and they get to decide what threads they want left up and which get deleted. I don’t think they should apologise.

It doesn't delete threads where people ghoulishly justify bombing schools and hospitals.

No, I don’t think criticisms are equates to antisemitism. I am often rather critical of the actions of the Israeli government myself.

But some posters on those threads are incapable of such criticism without resorting to antisemitism.

BeckyAMumsnet · 05/04/2026 14:52

Hi all - we'll move this over to Site stuff shortly or it may get lost.

We’re not censoring discussion of this issue but we will step in on threads that tip into rule-breaking territory. If there are specific threads you’re concerned about, it really helps if you can point us to them. We do revisit decisions (and row back on them) where appropriate, and if not, we can at least explain a bit more about what’s happened. Thank you.

stomachamelon · 05/04/2026 16:37

@BiteSizeByzantineI think that works all ways with every conflict discussed on here. If you are invested in some way the pain runs deeper. I can’t tell you the awful comments I read on here post Oct 7th. I made formal complaints both to Mumsnet and beyond. I think the celebration and excusing of death and destruction is ‘ghoulish’ whoever you are. It was NOT a one way street.
There are rules. If posters choose not to stick to them it’s on them. I have served more than one short ban when emotion has got the better of me but I hope I learnt from it.
It doesn’t change my perception though. More who I chose to get in the ring with and where.

SnackQueen · 05/04/2026 16:40

Can you not?

No. And I know many jews who are appalled by the Israelian goverment. Personally I think they are just as bad as each other. No pity and civilian killings on both sides.

The difference with Ukraine is that they didn't barge in to Russia starting killing people- they were attacked by Russia purely out of economical interests and to boost the ego of the crazy narcissist chipmunk who leads the country. In that way I have more sympathy and understanding for a country like Israël that was attacked first and that wanted to make sure it didn't happen again (while obviously going totally overboard). As for the US and Iran I feel they are both "the bad guys" here. With this demented narcissist that Trump and his incompetent goverment they are setting us all up for financial crisis while bombing haphazardly killing innocent people (and terrorists which I'm all for exterminating).

Yes criticising Israeli government policies obviously gets a thread deleted. That's why such criticism is impossible to find on MN.

This poster will struggle to find any “horrifically hateful posts” from any women of MN because there aren’t any. Quite the opposite, in fact.
