Could deleted posts show reasons and notify posters automatically?

Is it possible to slightly change the deleted posts process?

As i understand it, MN operates a reactive moderation policy: the posts/threads have to be reported before the mods take action and monitor a potentially problematic thread.

That's fine for me, it is my preferred moderation method.

But. Would it be possible to tweak it a little? Developers should be able to handle this easily.

  1. if a post is reported and subsequently deleted, can you automatically send a message (PM and/or email) to that poster to tell them? This can be connected to the report that was received, since it is a tick-box report.

  2. instead of the "this post is deleted" can we have the reason for the deletion? again, it can be connected to the report. That way the accusations of "MN is racist" will be immediately able to see that "this post was deleted due to racism"

Also: what is the policy for banning posters if they have multiple strikes of, say, racism against them? There are currently, again, accusations that racism is tolerated and "the posters aren't being banned" (how anyone would know that is beyond me, but i don't monitor MN that closely)

Hi SockPlant,

Thanks for your suggestions. We can see the potential benefits and will discuss this further at HQ.

If anyone else has any ideas, we'd love to hear them.

As for the other part of your question, while we can’t discuss individual users or their moderation history for privacy reasons, in general, repeated breaches of Talk guidelines will lead to warnings, suspensions, or bans, depending on the circumstances.

We don't tolerate racism on the site so if someone is persistently breaking our Talk Guidelines for those reasons, we'd take the necessary action behind the scenes.

Please report any posts that concern you - if they're not reported to us, the chances are that we won't have seen them so we rely on Mumsnetters to hit the report button.
