Do MNHQ ever delete posts without leaving a deletion message?

Does MNHQ sometimes delete posts without a deletion message?

I was just on a thread where someone made a long, relevant post, replying to another poster that didn't seem to break any talk guidelines although a bit conspiracy theory-ish (no worse than any of the usual guff) then within a few minutes it had vanished without a trace and without any deletion message.

I can't see that it would have been reported either. So what happened to it and why was it deleted?

I think it's physically possible for them to do this, but to me this sounds more likely to be a glitch - MN has been hugely glitchy of late.

Hi @noblegiraffe

Thanks for asking about this. We do very occasionally zap posts if, for example, the poster has an offensive username that would still show on the thread even if we deleted their post. We might also totally remove spam posts so they don't clutter up a thread. In general, though, if we delete a post we'd leave a deletion message.

If you can get in touch (by reporting this thread) and let us know a few details about the thread you were on when the post disappeared, we'll be able to check out what happened on this occasion.

Hi @JoMumsnet I've reported my OP and linked the thread and a copy of the missing post.

Thanks for looking into this!
