How can we pin posts?

On a thread today (won't link as don't want to be a TAAT) the OP pinned a post from another thread.

At the top of their post was a 'pinned' icon; at the bottom right there was an arrow saying 'go to post'.

How did they do that? I can't see an option anywhere to do that.

I don't think you usually get done for TAAT in site stuff if it's done with good intentions, so I reckon you'd be okay to post a link.

I saw that too and was wondering how they did it.

I noticed this too but couldn't see the option to do it on any threads I started. I think this is a functionality that has been introduced to help with some really difficult situations where the original OP gives details of something terrible (often a very ill pet/child/DH) and then after major changes to that situation (e.g. either tragic death or full recovery) people are still posting direct responses to the original OP which are now entirely inappropriate - but my conclusion when I couldn't see how to do it was that perhaps it's an MNHQ-only functionality and if you need to Pin a post like this you would "Report" the update post and request them to "Pin" it. Randomly picking an MNHQ bod to tag (apologies if this is inappropriate) perhaps @BeckyAMumsnet could confirm whether this is right?

That would make sense.

Hi BIWI, thanks for asking about this. CactusSwoonedEnding is right - it's only us at MNHQ who can pin posts. (Otherwise everyone would be at it!) We don't do it all that often, but if you ever feel that a thread would benefit from having a post pinned, just report the relevant post or thread and we'll take a look.

Also, if you drop us a line with a link to the thread you mentioned in your opening post, we can check that out too.
