Threads suddenly stopping - can't read past a certain point

AntiqueBabyLoanSmurf · 13/02/2026 09:28

Has anybody else had this - only seems to happen on a laptop but fine on a phone (both of them web versions)?

Normally, after clicking on 'I'm on', you click on one of 'your' threads and it takes you straight to the latest post at the bottom. Now, it takes you to the OP right at the top of the thread; and if you scroll down, it just randomly stops at a certain point in the thread e.g. at a post from yesterday afternoon when you know there have been lots more posts since then. The standard box to add your own post is also missing.

I hope it's a temporary glitch - it puts me off bothering to engage in a thread at all when I know that I won't be able to see any updates or replies to my posts or continue contributing after some random point. I can't use my phone for typing long sentences owing to disability.

Hi @AntiqueBabyLoanSmurf

Thanks for flagging this to us - it sounds very frustrating. Please can you let us know which browser you're using both on your mobile and laptop, so we can take a closer look into this.

I'm having similar issues in the past few days with the page freezing or loading to a certain post and then freezing. Sometimes getting the 'not loading, wait or exit' box coming up. It's not all pages or all the time, but maybe 1 in 8 open pages, and the only answer is to completely shut down the browser and re open it. I would suspect there's a particular ad messing with it, but since the page freezes and doesn't move, there's no knowing which one. Using Chrome on a laptop.

Hi Jo, thanks for coming back to me; and apologies for not seeing your reply sooner.

I use Brave browser for everything - on both devices.

I had the same today - chrome browser on phone.

I’ve got all sorts of problems on my iPhone. The bottom bar keeps disappearing, and the bookmark function barely works any more.

hidingmystatus · 15/02/2026 11:01

Me too, using Chrome on laptop. It only seems to be on longer threads - more than 100 posts, perhaps.

WaxMeltsMelting · 15/02/2026 18:03

I thought this was me- this has gotten worse over the last week or so.

iPhone using Safari

Still happening. Once a page freezes the whole browser has to be closed.

Morning, everyone. We've tried replicating this here and it looks like clearing cookies is sorting this problem, so that's worth a go.

Let us know if that helps.

AntiqueBabyLoanSmurf · 25/02/2026 13:21

Thank you, Hebe - I'll give this a try. I wonder why this is (now) an issue for MN, though, and not for any other sites?

I'm no longer finding that threads just stop after a certain number of posts, and then refuse to show the new posts from that point; but I am having a lot of issues with quoting people or reacting ("Something went wrong") and it usually takes a number of goes before it will 'accept' my post.

I hope clearing cookies does rectify this; but it's really impacting on my enjoyment of MN and I find I can't be bothered to engage nearly as much when it's such a battle to quote, react or post anything.

Its the ads that have been causing my issues. I use an app that blocks all the ads. After a year i can now use this site, it no longer freezes, stops, restarts or has this issue. It blocked 18 ads on 1 page Hmm

ExtraOnions · 03/03/2026 07:12

Same here … it’s the ad’s. They take ages to load, and freeze your page until they are loaded. Even shutting down the app and reloading it doesn’t work.

This only happens on MN, no other website. I’m on an IPhone.
