Copy text

I am able to copy text on my iPhone by long pressing on a word and dragging as needed. This allows me to copy and paste part of a post into a new post (rather than quote the whole thing). I can’t do that in MN.
Do you know why?

Hello @BringBackCatsEyes on iPhones, selecting and copying part of a post relies on the system text-selection tools built into the browser. That’s why you’re able to long-press and drag to copy text when using Mumsnet on mobile web, but not within the app itself. The app doesn’t currently support partial text selection in the same way, so you can’t copy just part of a post there.

If you need to copy and paste sections of posts, the best workaround for now is to use Mumsnet via your mobile browser rather than the app.

Thanks for the explanation. Using MN via a browser is clunky so I'll stick to the App, but it's frustrating to have to 'quote' a whole message when you just want to snip a bit out. Will you be adding this functionality to the App?

Hi @BringBackCatsEyes. Sadly, it's not going to be possible to add it to the app; the architecture of the new app won't allow us to do it.

We appreciate it's not a fix, but we have added in the 'Copy text' option as a workaround. It's in the menu on replies, which will copy the whole reply to the clipboard. Just hit the three dots in the top right hand corner of any post and select 'copy text'. You can then paste it into the reply box and edit it down from there. Not perfect but might help a bit.
