Turn ad blockers off - but I don't have any!!

I am getting locked out of Mumsnet as it asks me to disable ad blockers, I haven't installed any and don't know what I can do. The instructions that come up to disable blockers don't work for me. Am using on an iPhone, safari. It was working fine this morning. In a few minutes it will block me completely again, so posting quickly!

Same here but using iPad.

TY78910 · 03/02/2026 16:02

do you have any VPNs on your phone?

Dayaftertraitors · 03/02/2026 16:39

I don't even know what VPNs are so I doubt it! 😂

Hello @Dayaftertraitors and @VoiceFromThePit sorry you’re seeing the ad-block pop-up again and again. This usually happens when a browser extension or privacy tool is preventing the page from saving your preference.

It’s worth checking whether you have any ad blockers installed, such as AdBlock, Adblock Plus, uBlock Origin, AdGuard or similar, or privacy tools like Ghostery, Privacy Badger, Disconnect, or built-in tracking protection. If you do, try disabling them temporarily and refreshing the page.

If you don’t use extensions, some antivirus software (for example Norton, Bitdefender, Kaspersky, Sophos, Avast) also has ad/tracker blocking features that can cause the same issue. Turning those off briefly and reloading the site should help confirm whether that’s the cause.

I don't understand why it would just start happening today though. I haven't changed anything

My iPhone updated overnight last night, did yours by any chance? I wonder if that’s it, I have the same issue on safari but I know my phone updated last night and a couple of other websites have acted like I’m brand new to the website and making me repeatedly do the cookies/ads thing again.

Dayaftertraitors · 03/02/2026 18:02

That's interesting @MagnetAndSteel wonder what the solution is though. I'm getting a few minutes when I can type fast like not and get a post on, then the message appears again and I'm kicked out

My iPad didn’t update last night. The issue persists and only started today. No adblockers, vpn or anti-virus software on my ipad.

I'm glad I'm not alone! I can post or read randomly and then the thing pops up again telling me I have to disable my non-existent ad blockers and I'm blocked from doing anything

Updating to say I can't see adverts - they are greyed out. So this clearly looks like I'm ad blocking but surely my phone can't decide to download one off its own bat? And there is nothing coming up when I look in settings.

I think my iPhone software has updated - 26.2.1 - but it says nothing about ad blockers so I can't turn it off. Have restarted phone so will see if I can stay in today or if I'm booted out again!

Am hoping am not speaking too soon - but tonight have been able to use Mumsnet without the message popping up - fingers crossed!

Yep no issues for me today either, they must have fixed the bug they introduced.

i can understand asking us to turn off ad-blockers, but do you not think it working against our anti-virus software, and asking us to turn those off is really bad practise???

your ad-block detectors should not be picking up anti-virus software, and i have NEVER been on any other site that does.
