MN happy to have posts witb the agenda of normalising child sexual activity.

I know the thread is in the Sex forum and there is a lot of explicit stuff on there and there generally isn't much in the way of taboo things.

But a poster telling the OP that she should chill out because her 14 year old having sex with a 13 year old is " normal" to my mind is not the sort of agenda MN should be allowing.

Allowing someone who is normalising child sexual activity in the days of grooming gangs, child explotation and abuse seems a pretty irresponsible line to take.

Have you reported that comment? I have, just now, so we’ll see how long it stays up. I have (in the past) reported a comment three times before it finally got deleted, and I’ll be back here if needed.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 24/01/2026 20:35

Hi Coral from Mumsnet, you emailed me over ten minutes ago to say you were looking at it but you haven’t deleted it. Can you let me know why please?

Just kidding. I know why. It’s because this is one of the worst moderated places in the internet and you simply don’t care.

GreenPoms · 24/01/2026 20:38

Where is the comment? If lots of us report it they might act sooner. It’s also probably worth leaving a message for the night watchers as mnhq are probably not working atm.

Sometimeswinning · 24/01/2026 20:48

I mean can’t you all just do a pile on and tell her she’s wrong? Why does it need removing. She sounds stupid and her words should remain for all to see.

People have pushed back.

But that’s not the point. Otherwise I can write whatever I want here, I can give whatever opinion I want, and as long as people push back then that comment will remain. Literally no comment would ever be deleted under that policy.

I don’t know how to link to a specific comment, but it was 22 January at 1700.

An opinion. Not sure why we need to censor them. I don’t agree with all the deleting of comments. Honestly, any normal thinking person knows the comment is wrong. Why we need someone deleting it is beyond me.

Yes I reported it.
They said they were " looking in to it".
And they told me I was free to reply to the comment I was reporting.
I had already called the poster out on the comment before I reported it.

“Free to reply to the comment” aka continue a discussion in the Perv topic on under age sex.

My working assumption would be that if newname poster wanted to get advice from other parents on young teens engaging in risky behaviour they would do so in one of the many topics for parenting/teenagers etc

Going straight to the perv topic with “Please post your opinions” - yeah right.

Well yes, that was always sort of the point to it.

Anyone wanting actual advice on parenting sexually actively teenagers would post on the teenagers forum, or AIBU, or chat, or relationships. The sex forum is aimed at providing people with wank fodder. Nobody expects real advice there.

I never assume a particular poster is female, especially if posting about teenage sex in the perv topic.

But sometimes leaving a comment and robustly replying to it is more effective than just deleting it.

The moderation policy here is pretty weird and never makes much sense to me. I’ve been on many forums over the years and never seen so many deleted comments and threads. Then you get obviously really dodgy stuff that just gets left.

People can be absolutely vile on here but mild swearing or name calling and the post is gone and you get a temp ban (bitter experience 😄). My view is we’re adults and should be able to challenge people but obviously the bosses disagree.

Fair shout! I just thought of it as an uneducated parent who worries more about being friends with their children. They should be challenged.

Just for perverted kicks? I take back my comment.

The sex topic doesn't seem to be moderated at all. It's full of pervs and trolls.

When I joined MN a few years ago the Sex forum was already established.
I did read at one point that when it was first introduced a lot of MNers were against it and feared the type of posters it would attract. And I think their fears have been proved right.

I get annoyed sometimes when threads are posted in other forums - chat, AIBU, relationships etc which are purely about sex and actually, in a few cases, gratuitously so. And I ask MN, via the report facility , shouldn't these be moved to the Sex forum and isn't that the whole point of having the Sex forum? Invariably MN acknowledges my report but doesnt move the thread.
And then I look at the Sex forum as I do occasionally and I honestly understand why OP's are reluctant to start a thread in this forum . Whereas there are some posters who offer very good advice on there, the overwhelming feeling is MN has allowed the forum to be taken over by a really unsavoury element- I'm struggling to find an appropriate descriptive word here. There is so little in the way of moderation.

It's a pity MN doesn't moderate the Sex Forum. And a pity it doesn't move some threads into the Sex forum, if that's the topic where they really belong. So that the Sex forum can be opened up to a wider range of posters. Instead of it being viewed as the home of "perverts" that many feel it is.

90% of normal users have the sex topic hidden.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of posters are men.

Imo it's not just the " perv men" who are the problem. It's also the ones having fun peddling a truly misogynistic agenda without disclosing that their contributions are from the male view point.

Actually I wasn't referring to the sex topic when I was talking about posters with misogynistic agendas. I was talking more about those who post in relationships and AIBU.
You are probably right about the perv men in the sex topic.

You think the point of the sex topic was to attract pervs and trolls?

I think it's a shame women who want genuine advice about sex won't go anywhere near it. Post on there and the sleazy men descend and you are guaranteed a pervy PM.

Exactly this. A women only space where women can talk about things like sexual health, sexual function after childbirth/menopause or simply ask “is this normal” would be a useful function on a supposedly “supportive site”.

Instead we have perv central, without even the 90 day rule any more.

It’s best to presume most posters on the sex board are men, even the ones that say they’re women.

This is a particularly bad one as it involves children, but we’ve had that sort here before unfortunately and mumsnet have been slow/reluctant to delete.

There was one poster that talked about their young step children ‘peeping’ on them when they were having sex, with others saying it’s normal as kids are curious. It was really weird, obviously a bunch of perverts/paedos and at the time there were quite a few questionable thread involving children/teens and sex on the sex board and others. These people are among us.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 25/01/2026 17:12

I’m curious how many reports they’ve had.

I’m also curious why Mumsnet don’t seem to care about their reputation. Do they just sit there on a Monday morning having a meeting about advertising? Do they not realise how many advertisers read this site and will be put off by seeing this sort of thread?
