Why am I seeing sexually explicit ads on the top banner of the app?

Because it's your lucky day? 😂

Because Mumsnet literally don’t care.

The same reason there was apparently a photo of a baby’s genitals on full view despite it being reported more than once.

The same reason Ann Summers had pictures of women’s bum cheeks all over the site.

And ‘we’ are all perfectly fine with it. And if we’re not, tough.

And anyone who objects to it is ignored until they make multiple reports and then they are undermined by ‘women’ (maybe?) who find it all completely normal.

I’m glad you’ve seen them and that you started this thread, and on the slight chance anyone from Mumsnet comes on here to request the url (nope) and attempts to minimise it, people will read it and make up their own mind about this site.

And this crap too - everyone else can’t wait to distance themselves

Wow, that is awful. If it’s true that Mumsnet does not monitor it’s explicit ads and images.

can anyone advertise anything MN? What’s the criteria ads have to meet? Who checks/vets them?

That advert did disappear for me for a while, but it’s been back a lot recently.

FamilyGuise · 06/01/2026 18:36

Try downloading the free browser called DuckDuckGo, @shamalidacdak, which quite a few posters have recommended and seem to use quite happily, which will strip out these ghastly adverts and all the other related problems like battery draining quickly, phone heating up, and endless refreshing of the page.

MNHQ seems to be unable to replicate the problems that users face, so it’s probably a fair solution.

I was ok with a few ads as a trade-off; but not the horrible rubbish that currently being displayed.

ThejoyofNC · 06/01/2026 18:37

I've seen several threads lately of people can complaining over inappropriate ads. I think the general response is that they don't care.

shamalidacdak · 06/01/2026 19:02

Okay I reported it via email and they responded so hopefully they will do something about it. Encourage you all to do the same. I sent it to the contact us at mumsnet.com email address

Hi all

Just taking a look at this - thanks for the screenshot! Are they all from the same advertiser (if you see the advertiser) - we can't see a name in the screenshot, but we're on it and will get this blocked ASAP.

JaneJeffer · 06/01/2026 19:29

I think it’s crazy that MN doesn’t have a clue about what is being advertised on their website!

Thanks so much for flagging this.

Our apologies - this was blocked previously and shouldn't be visible. We're looking into how it managed to make a reappearance and we've blocked it again now. .

We appreciate it's frustrating when we ask for more info.

AdChoices ads are delivered dynamically by third-party networks rather than being placed directly by us, which means they can be much harder to trace - and they sometimes disguise sexualised or inappropriate content so that it slips past automated checks.

That’s why we ask for as much detail as possible, as it’s often the only way we can track the ad down and block it. But we do still try to replicate it while we’re waiting for further details.
