Page constantly freezing and needing reloading

Been happening for a few days now, has taken me ages in fact to write this thread.

You’re not alone in experiencing this, it’s a massive problem caused by the huge amount of video ads now stuffed onto the site. There’s another thread here:

I wouldn’t hold your breath for MN to fix it soon. The ads are still running though, despite them rendering the site almost unusable.

As mentioned on the other thread I'm hopeless with tech, but wonder what the point is in all the adverts if they render the site unusable anyway

Or, come to that, why the response is invariably "clear your cookies/send a screenshot" when surely HQ should know what's happening on their own site, and sending such info doesn't seem to resolve the issues anyway

I really, really hope we're not seeing the beginning of the end of Mumsnet - there are some wonderful posters on here I'd very much miss - but it's not looking good

Also - are there no techs out there who know how to run a website?

More to the point, @Nanny0gg, why are so many issues centred on this one?

Countless other sites carry ads and still manage to function properly and it's not as if Mumsnet's some start-up running on a shoestring, so while I appreciate the corporate sensitivity it would be interesting to know where the problems really lie

Hello @soupyspoon thanks for posting. We are looking into this issue and it’s a priority for us. We know it's frustrating.

The crashing and freezing is not coming down to one single cause, which is why it’s taking a bit of time to properly understand. It seems to be a mix of things, so it won’t affect everyone in quite the same way. We are actively testing and working through it, and will update here as soon as we have anything more definite.

In the meantime, if a video player has opened when it happens, closing it does seem to help stop things freezing for some users.
