What's this "load older/newer posts" bullshit

ImaginaryHorse · 17/12/2025 15:00

It's awful, someone make it stop 😔 How do I turn it off?

I can no longer go straight to the end of a long thread. I can no longer use "find in page" to find things. I can no longer load a few long threads to read on the underground. It's absolutely rubbish.

Can I have my MN back to just showing me all the posts on a thread please and thanks?

(And no, I don't want pages, that's why I didn't have pages set in the first place)

Hey @ImaginaryHorse,

Thanks so much for feeding back.

You can change your settings in Settings >Talk > Thread Posts > Split into Pages, and then you can choose how many posts per page you have.

If you have any other questions, let us know.

I don't want pages though Confused

I said that in my post.

Can't I turn it off so long posts just...show all the posts? Like they did 48 hours ago?

1000 is the max posts on any thread. So the setting you need is pages but with also set to 1000 per page. Which will he what you had previously.

Rebeccaatmumsnet · 17/12/2025 15:22

@ImaginaryHorse Yes, so if you choose 1000 posts per page then that is all posts per page.

DeanStockwell · 18/12/2025 14:23

@ImaginaryHorse I agree 100% with you, I have my setting to show all - no pages , now with this to get back to where I want I have to keep clicking "see older pages " if I wanted them separated I'd have see x pages .
That along with the showing the post number and the up/ down arrow ond 'here is were you left off " the page is so sodding cluttered I can't see the post
Mn seem to forget that lots and lots of us mn on our phones so only have a relatively small viewing screen to start with.

No it's not , I have it set on display 1000 post and the annoying show older / newer post is still there.

It's two different issues. Some people have been moved into a test group where they no longer have pages but only this "infinite scroll" nonsense. If you are in that group you have to request to be taken out of it again so you get pages back. Then you can set it to up to 1k post per page.

Thank you, @Rebeccaatmumsnet, I came looking here because I was getting increasingly annoyed by the "load more posts” option, as I like to have my threads divided into pages with 100 posts on each and to be able to search for posts in roughly the right position on a thread. So thank you for the solution!

So I have it set to ‘show all 1000 posts at once’, are you saying if I see the ‘scroll up or down to see more’ then I’m in the infinite scroll user group?

@Rebeccaatmumsnet if so, can you take me out of the infinite scroll group please? All I see is people posting to be taken out of the group, might I gently suggest it isn’t what people want?

Me too, it just started a few days ago. People have been posting about this for months, asking to come out of the user group (that they didn’t ask to be put in, nor were they informed about), and it’s so annoying.

Yes, that's it. I was put in the test group for about 5 minutes before I requested to be taken out and to grt pages back. The "load more" or "load newer" or whatever only appears if you are in that test.

Hundreds of posters have been removed at their request. I have no idea why they are persisting with testing it.

I do have it set for 1000 posts already so you haven’t described it properly here.

I’ve read so many requests to be taken out of the group but never quite understood what it was until now.

Surely ‘test’ = ‘everyone hates it’ = stop test? 🤷‍♀️

Yeah I had it set to 1000 posts too, so god knows why I'm being told that will sort it Confused

It should sort it once you have also been taken out of the infinite scroll test group. Being put in that test group means you don't have pages any more even if your settings show that you do.

It's very annoying. But if you get yourself taken off the test then you will have pages back and if set to 1000 per page you will always have all threads show on one page.

Oh I see!

Does anyone like this infinite scroll thing?!?

OP posts:
AorticValve · 20/12/2025 14:36

Please take me out of this test group too. It is awful. Impossible to find things in thread, I miss half the posts, cannot just scroll through. If you skip to the end, it doesn't actually take you to the end. It is shit.
