Bot report - looks like spam

Has anyone else received PM’s telling you your ad was declined whilst they look at it behind the scenes to keep people safe etc but then provides a dodgy looking link to click? I’ve had 2 of those messages a few hours ago - considering I haven’t posted any ads I’m not worried lol, but it’s definitely been made to look like a Mumsnet official bot and I can’t see a way of reporting spam messages, just blocking the sender.

Yep, I got this. Had no idea what it was supposed to be about so I just ignored it. Will go back and block.

MNHQ really need to get a grip on the spammers and bots, perhaps that should take priority over endlessly changing the colours of the talk board and pushing format changes that nobody asked for or wants!

I really hope people just delete it and don't mindlessly click links

This is why I posted it in here - there could be people who think it’s genuinely from MN and click the link thinking it means one of their comments. Hopefully people will either realise for themselves when they see the messages or they’ll see this in time to not click it!

I never even thought to report tbh I was on my first coffee and wasn't that awake, good call.

Hi there @Tillow4ever . Thanks so much for flagging this here. You're absolutely right - this is nothing to do with us. The person behind those PMs is now banned and we'll go in and delete those messages now to stop anyone else potentially being taken in.

Hi @MNHQ - just to let you know I got one of these messages just now, assume it's spam but thought you would like to know so you can block them

I've had two dodgy PMs from a user calling themselves MumcnetVerification. The messages were then deleted automatically and I didn't open them. Pls block this user.

Yeah this is the user I was getting shite from.

@HebeMumsnet I have had a DM from bot MumcnetVerification too - "Deleted at Request of User".

Is that account still active or has it been booted?

I’ve had one too, came through at 12:50 but was deleted before I read it.

Yeah it's like how dodgy do they have to be to not even know how to spell Mumsnet. 🤣

I have just turned off private messaging I never use it anyway so hopefully that will stop spam.

I have 2 of these too.
