It seems that now, while I'm scrolling through a thread, every so often an arrow in a bubble will pop up, along with another bubble pointlessly telling me the number of the post currently in view.

They are not so intrusive on a computer screen, but on a small phone screen, they are taking up valuable screen space. Is there any way I can get rid of them?

Also, I previously had the whole thread available to view when I opened it. My preference was to have the newest threads at the top. If I wanted to read from the first reply, I could just press Add Post and it would take me to the bottom.

Now it doesn't do that, it takes me down a few posts, and then I have to click on Load More Posts. For a long thread, this could take ages.

This is making the site an absolute chore to browse.

I’m up with the flu and Mumsnet would typically have been my comfort place to go when feeling unwell. Now the site is telling me that I need to have a Mumsnet Premium account in order to focus on all posts in a thread by the OP.

I’ve been using Mumsnet on my phone for nearly 16 years. Effectively the site is now unusable from my perspective. I really enjoyed the long threads and being able to sift out updates from the OP, so as not have to churn through 20 pages of posts from other users. It was a good of making sure you were up to date with the whole picture, ensuring any comments I made were reflective of the latest from the OP.

Finding posts from the OP is now a time consuming chore. This has provided the impetus for me to call it a day on Mumsnst - it’s underlined that I have better things to do with my time.

Yes, I’m especially grouchy about it, as I’ve only had two hours sleep.

Are you sure? I don't have Premium, but I am able to click "See all" in the bottom right corner of a first post and see only posts by the original poster.

Different apps work differently too. In addition to the ‘seenext/see all button, I have a filter at the top of the thread. I can still select the OP.

It also doesn’t have intrusive ads.

Try downloading Brave browser and use MN on that - no intrusive ads, no ad threads, and I found it reinstated the 'see all' posts from OP functionality that I had lost. I'm on android though, so that might make a difference.

Hi there @BadLad . This sounds like the new post counter feature? You can toggle it off here in Talk settings by changing 'On threads show posts per thread:' from 'All on one page' to 'Split into pages'.

Hope that helps.

But what about those of us who want to see all posts on one page the way we have done since it was all fields round here? Why are we having counters and infuriating ways of viewing (looking at you "load more posts" clicky) that don't include actually "seeing all posts on one page" pushed on us?

Me too. I'm not on the app. Maybe they'll roll it out to the website too

Stop adding features that noone asked for and noone seems to want! Instead of applying these new features to everyone's account on an opt-out basis, why don't you allow users to opt in where they choose to??

Thank you @HebeMumsnet but as another poster said, I liked having all the posts on one page and being able to scroll up and down to any of them without having to click “load more posts” and without having those annoying purple bubbles. Is there any chance you could put it back to the way it was a few days ago, which worked perfectly for me?

I believe you have to switch to pages on order to escape the load older/newer posts nonsense. Very frustrating.

@BadLad said ’Now it doesn't do that, it takes me down a few posts, and then I have to click on Load More Posts. For a long thread, this could take ages.’

So why don’t you reply to her ‘yes, sorry about that, it’s our test that we persist with called ‘infinite scroll’ that literally no one likes but for some reason we still persist on inflicting on everyone. Ask us and we shall take you off the list’.

Tell you what, why don’t you give me a job at your head office and I’ll sort out all this annoying shit for you?

Yes! I don't want to have the infinite scroll thing. I don't want pages. I just want all posts on one page.

Having the 'load newer posts' function actually removes functionality. If you are halfway through a long thread and see someone posting an interesting point of view and want to see more of their posts, or just want to see the OP's posts, on a browser you can use your browser's 'find in page' function to do that. Now you can't because it won't find any posts that have not yet displayed because you haven't reached the end of the thread.

It is super annoying and I doubt it's adding to anyone's experience of the site.

Can't you just give us the choice?

BadLad · 19/12/2025 22:44

We probably won’t get any more replies from the site staff on this thread. They tend to post one or two fobs off and then ignore the thread.

OP posts:
MonGrainDeSel · 20/12/2025 23:55

Yes, I know. Just wanted to add my thoughts. Maybe I will start another thread. Maybe I'll start one a week until they let us have the choice. It's really really crap.

This. It's a completely different (much better) experience now.

I get that the site needs to earn money and I don't mind a few ads, but it had just become completely unusable so this is the only solution.

100%.

@HebeMumsnet could you please explain why you choose to annoy everyone with opt in rather than opt out for all the new features that no one wants?

I’m on IPhone and the browser app DuckDuckGo is similarly effective.

HebeMumsnet · 22/12/2025 11:04

Hi @BadLad .

If you want to go back to seeing all posts on one page you just need to have 'on thread show posts per thread:' set to 'Split into pages' and then have the 'Number of posts per page:' set to '1000'. That will bring back the old experience without needing to click to load in more posts. You may find things a little slow on some very long threads with it set to 1000 but you can always change it down to 100 per page etc in that instance.

Hope that helps.
