See lots of people doing it?
How does one do it?
Why does one do it?

Sorry, not being lazy have searched the site for this and found nothing - glad of some explanation, ta

It's to stop messages dropping off the bottom of active conversations list.

Lonelymum · 22/01/2005 20:21

When you post a message, your thread goes to the top of the message board so people write "bump" to move (bump) the thread back up to the top.

when you write bumping you are making it become active

welcome to mumsnet btw

JanH · 22/01/2005 20:24

Some people just put

.

Does the same job.

(If you don't use "active conversations" you won't realise the significance. It was ages before I did!)

HunkerMunker · 22/01/2005 20:26

Bump.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

jibberjabber · 23/01/2005 19:52

Thanks.
What if I was telling you about a "bump" on my head? Would it was be shimmied up there? I guess you have to be careful of overusing it.

How clever.

I asked this question the other day, and I've just realised that I hadn't understood the answer properly. Now that I've read this explanation i realise the word is immaterial, it just has to be a post. There I was thinking it was something amazingly technological, and now I know that without using the four letter word in question, this thread will be at the top of the active conversations list again.

Lonelymum · 23/01/2005 20:09

Just as mine is now.

SPARKLER1 · 23/01/2005 20:10

Riebee · 23/01/2005 20:54

SeaShells · 24/01/2005 12:02

When I was new, I thought it was just alot of pregnant women boasting, seriously I did!

jabberwocky · 24/01/2005 12:10

pickledonion · 24/01/2005 13:09
