What's with the annoying floating watch button

Hoardasurass · 12/11/2025 19:04

All day everytime I click on a thread i get part way through reading the op then up pops this annoying floating watch thread button floating in the middle of my screen, its distracting and unneeded as there's a watch button at the bottom of the op if I want to watch the thread I dont need or want another especially when I haven't decided if I want to watch it or not as I haven't finished reading the op also its really distracting.
So @MNHQ why have you added this ridiculous redundant feature and how do I switch it off so it never appears again on any thread not just the individual thread I'm reading

Yes I have this too and it is a bit annoying! Sorry HQ!

Meceme · 13/11/2025 03:28

Me too. It's very irritating, especially when it appears with the annoying floating ad at the top of the page. Honestly makes Mumsnet pretty unusable. Only started happening today.

DallasMajor · 13/11/2025 06:59

I sure MN are trying to get rid of users. Why else would they keep adding completely ridiculous features.

People are already complaining about the mass of adverts , the general clutter and then they add a big blue watch button. Wtf?

The only reason for it is that as you try and click out of it, you often accidentally click yet an advert, which is what MN wants.

It's annoying the life out of me too, even after I click the x to get rid of it it then comes back as I continue scrolling through the thread!

MrsCrawfordsCroissant · 13/11/2025 08:05

It's so very annoying! And especially annoying that once you click the X to make it go away, after some time, it comes back!! Just NO! I know how to watch threads already, thanks!

Iuu · 13/11/2025 12:25

If there’s a need for an extra watch Can’t the watch just also be put at the top next to save and share? The floating bar is ridiculously annoying.

AmeliaPMumsnet · 13/11/2025 12:29

Thank you all for sharing your feedback about the new Watch button that appears at the top of the screen on threads. We added this in response to user feedback that they don't know if they want to watch until they've read some of the thread.

We hear you that at the moment the button feels too big, distracting, or gets in the way, and we totally get why that’s frustrating. We've got some ideas on how to make it less annoying and we're implementing them ASAP.

Our goal here is to make the site better and easier for everyone to use. Thanks again for letting us know how it’s working for you.

Hoardasurass · 13/11/2025 12:53

Thanks @AmeliaPMumsnet is there anyway we can opt out of the floating watch button completely?

It's incredibly annoying. I came on here to complain about it and there was a thread already. We all managed to watch threads we wanted to watch in years gone by. I keep thinking I'm getting a notification the way it appears like that.

AmeliaPMumsnet · 13/11/2025 14:02

@Hoardasurass this isn't possible but we're working through some of the issues now and will make improvements ASAP.

Meceme · 14/11/2025 07:56

Still happening and really annoying.
I don't mind it popping up once per thread, I can dismiss that, but even after I press the x it keeps popping up every few minutes whilst I attempt to read the thread.
@AmeliaPMumsnet please can you limit the pop up to once per thread?

Kgfkbd · 14/11/2025 09:23

Totally annoying, yet another thing to have to click on to get rid of it.
Why not just have a watch thread option at the bottom of each post on a thread, same as it is on the first post? Get rid of the really irritating floating thing please

Luxio · 14/11/2025 09:26

I can't recall anyone ever posting saying they needed such a feature and to be honest even if they had it's surely much easier to add it to the blue bar under each post than have a floating obstacle appearing multiple times per thread?

AmeliaPMumsnet · 14/11/2025 10:07

Hi everyone. Thank you again for the feedback. We’ve switched it off for now while we make improvements based on what you’ve shared. We really appreciate you taking the time to let us know what wasn’t working, and we’ll keep you updated as we iterate.

DallasMajor · 14/11/2025 13:15

I just don't understand the obsession with making the screen more cluttered.

Giant footer on each post, the the blue quick links, plus the massive intrusive advert and then you thought adding a floating button was a good idea.

I use the Brave Browser which blocks all ads on the site - I have no idea what this floating watch button is so I guess the Brave Browser also blocks it.

No they pulled it whilst they make changes as stated upthread

EveryKneeShallBow · 19/11/2025 11:25

Please get rid of this it’s so intrusive.
