Sick of the massive ads in a thread.

I’m sick of keep accidentally tapping an ad whilst scrolling through a thread because they are so sodding big. I get MN now want revenue through advertising but do they have to be so big and so many on one thread?

I’m going to have to give up soon via flouncers corner as it’s just unusable now.

I felt the same and then took a poster's advice on a Site Stuff thread about moving over to the DuckDuckGo browser (app), It strips out the ads and crap, and makes MN usable again on my phone.

I was also on the point of giving up because, while I would cheerfully accept a couple of discreet ads per page to help MN run its business, I couldn't stand the intrusive sensory overload of the flashing banners, video ads and the massive page-covering images, with the accompanying page freezing, battery draining and overheating that affected my iPhone.

(And no, I'm not prepared to hand over my personal data to MN or a 3rd party to use 'Premium', especially as we users write the content and are indeed the product.)

Agree with you both. With the awful reloading of pages and glitching it’s a poor user experience and it’s putting me off.
is the plastering of ads because they’re losing users?
Then MN should concentrate on the quality of the experience.. mistake to let the site become so uncontrolled to use and feel (as a user) to be totally dictated by simply wherever an ad can be placed.

I use Duck Duck Go but this is the MN app I’m on. It’s useless.

Delete the app and use Duck Duck Go.

I have never used the app and just use the mobile site.

It’s the constant refreshing for me that I find annoying

Hello @WildFlowerBees thanks for posting. Could you please give us a bit more info about what ads you mean? Things that really help us are screen recordings of you scrolling. If you can do that, please post here or send to [email protected]

The ads are the same ones i posted about last month, im pretty sure mumsnet are well aware of them and which ones they are. I and others have been asked previous for screen shots etc.

They are big take up the whole screen and are video based. You press the x on them and they just come back as you scroll down. They cause the page to load and reload. It’s happened as recent as today.

Nevermind all the other small distracting ads. But revenue seems to be more important than user experience these days.

So for example @BeckyAMumsnet the money switching service advert again which i complained about weeks ago which takes over the whole page.. and often crashes it.

I was reading the thread ‘Ambulance Tonight’ on one page i pressed the corner X and it reappeared 4 times just reading ONE page. The longer i take to scroll and read it’s like it’s programmed to come up every so many seconds ( maybe like 20/30) l. You can scroll past or X the advert but it comes back further down.

As well as this you have very large adverts in screen and the top banner advert moving. It’s too much.

My whole screen is an add and it's actually hard to scroll at all.

The site has been stopping me posting at all because it’s repeatedly reloading the page then hanging, the ‘3’ phone company ad is on in the ribbon up top. That is constant and the other bigger (top of the page) ads cover up the ribbon with their videos. Total mess

Let’s see if I can manage to post this. Just have been getting the circle of doom on the post button repeatedly and lots of page reloading.

OK. Now this is posting because the ribbon up top has changed, is now a Google workspace advert still being covered up by moving ads but allowing posting
