The ads know exactly what I have been looking at but..........

I recently booked a holiday at a hotel in Tenerife. I may have looked at the hotel a few times before booking. Ever since then on MN I am constantly confronted with ads for the same hotel, even after I'd booked, and now it continues after I have returned home. Yes, I know that hotel is in sunny Tenerife, I booked it and how I am home again - so why are you still showing me that same hotel repeatedly ad people - you got your booking?!
Even more bizarre are the ebay ads.....which repeatedly show me items that I have listed for sale...why?
PS Yes, I am a grumpy old woman.

Send them a postcard next time 🤭

Yes, pretty sure it works on an algorithm.

People have screenshotted those huge ads that cover the page and say they are for a certain company. I do get the big ads, but not the same ones. I live in a different country and my ads are mostly local ones.

I don't think we all get shown the same adverts.

It’s just cookies 😅

Clear your cookies and you won’t get them.

Yep. I only get adverts for an online game. One I've been actively playing since 2004 and am often logged in to while the advert is showing!

Bit of a waste of time.

This sort of thing actually cheers me up a bit because the algorithms are supposed to be sooo sophisticated but they don't even know I've just bought an item or booked a holiday... so I can kid myself I'm not being stalked by advertisers or strategically pushed things.

I assume you're having a bit of a joke with this post and just venting? (Never can be sure on MN)

The website doesn't know you've been on holiday!

As regards the eBay items, it's because you've looked at them a lot. It doesn't know you're the seller.

Okay, I get it, it's just a vent at the ads and why not, they are so annoying

I find this on Facebook where I’m bombarded with adverts for new homes because I was being nosy about the floorplans of some local new houses and, through some very poor advert targeting, I’m now presented with adverts for new homes hundreds of miles away. However, often the adverts don’t say where the new builds are located so, because of my nosiness, I HAVE to open the advert to see if they are anywhere that I would consider, and so, the cycle of seeing poorly targeted adverts continues…
