Ads have really slowed down page load - site becoming unusable

I’m on an iPad using Safari. Mumsnet is becoming unusable - the pages are just taking so long to load because of all the blinking ads.

Om the plus side, gone are the days when I could fritter away an hour or two on Mumsnet. My patience runs out in a few minutes now. But it’s hard to see how the ads are going to bring in revenue if half of us just don’t stay around to see them.

Agreed. I’ve had to toggle so many settings to be able to actually open the site and it not immediately close and disappear.

Yes it’s really bad. Also the page keeps reloading so I get part way through a thread then it reloads and goes back to the top and I have to scroll past the ads again to get back to where I was, read a few more posts, then it reloads again…

I think this must have been happening to me which is why the site kept crashing and closing.

BiologicalRobot · 12/10/2025 12:13

I agree, this site is becoming worse than the Boots website and we all know how painful that one is to use (I've actually stopped using Boots due to how bad it is, Superdrug and H&B now).

MN if you are going to stop people using adblockers then please make sure your ads are not intrusive, annoying or make users phones hot or slow. That's on you.

UncertainPerson · 14/10/2025 07:24

Are you not going to bother fixing these known issues Mumsnet? I’ve had to switch to Chrome and make sure no other apps are running, to get the site running at all, and even then it crashes constantly. Agree with others it has curbed my addiction to Mn tho 😬

BeckyAMumsnet · 14/10/2025 10:10

Morning, everyone.
It’s been a tricky one to pin down, unfortunately, but we’ve now completely switched off the ad unit we think was causing the issue.
If you spot the problem happening again from this point onwards, please do let us know - it’ll really help us narrow things down and get it properly sorted.
Thanks so much for your patience, and we’re really sorry for the inconvenience.

Didnt work, half the page is still
covered in massive ads you cant turn off!

BlackberryAppleCrumble · 14/10/2025 12:40

Nope. Still took three goes with two different browsers to load.

Quercus5 · 14/10/2025 13:14

@BeckyAMumsnet That’s much better now. Thanks.

Completely agree. Whether on 4G or using wifi it’s just so slow. And also keeps refreshing itself and going back to the start of the page. Incredibly annoying!

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 14/10/2025 23:19

It does seem better for me - faster and no glitching. Hopefully, I’m not imagining it!

Baggyeyesbaggy · 15/10/2025 06:54

@BeckyAMumsnet Since the update last week, I'm struggling to use Mumsnet now. Aside from the awful new layout, it constantly freezes. The thread I was just reading just froze, went blank and all I was left with was a small specsavers ad at the top.

I read it on my phone, clear cache regularly and don't have any issues on any other sites.

Dodgethis · 15/10/2025 07:07

It’s almost entirely unusable.

Hello, Ive just said on another thread that every time I try to go into active, I end up in the Aldi website, because the advert for Aldi is covering the top of the page, like an overlay

And No I cant do screen shots or whatever I have no idea how to do things like that

1457bloom · 15/10/2025 08:05

Get an ad blocker

Fridayismyfunday · 15/10/2025 08:13

It is ridiculous. So slow to load, constantly reloading and on my phone most of the time I can only see one line at a time

And why do you think my screenshot (as requested) is a sensitive image which must be hidden??

Chocolatesanddune · 15/10/2025 08:25

the site was unusable on chrome yesterday so I switched to safari - I then had a security message from safari with a list of websites I had visited and the number of trackers blocked. Mumsnet was much higher at 70 than the next highest (right moves) 16.

doctorsleep · 15/10/2025 09:18

The laptop overheats, fan goes crazy and no, I don’t need to clean my cache. Another one here who has turned to DuckDuckGo just to browse MN.
The second I open mumsnet, 13 trackers are flagged, just by opening the website, without opening a thread, and then it is an avalanche.
MN is slighlty overdoing the data mining and selling.

Just FYI I have that stand mixer, its very good! lol

Jellifer · 10/04/2026 15:43

Bringing up an old thread but the site is currently not usable for me. Exact same issues with pages freezing due to adverts constantly reloading.

I’m on Chome on iPhone
