Why is a 2024 post with no replies in “Active”

Just that really! Clicked on a post in active intending to report it for Spam based on the title alone… and saw it was posted in 2024 and has never had even a single reply. How the hell has that ended up in “Active”?

Photos added to show the active thread and the actual post!

I reported a similar thing this morning, there were loads of posts about hair products in active none of which has been posted on for ages

Because a spammer will have posted on that thread, advertising who knows what, and MN will have deleted their post, but not left any evidence of the post/poster.

Ohh is that why? I quite often notice a thread with no replies from, say, four hours ago, and above and below are threads with posts ten minutes ago. I thought it was Mumsnet bumping them silently 🤣.

Hi OP,

Sorry for the confusion - we had a persistent spammer and so we removed their posts but they had bumped older threads. We've excluded the Instagram thread from active. If there are any others you want us to look at, please just report the thread or send us a link.

Thanks for clarification - that makes sense now!

Yes, I reported a spammer on that thread this morning.
