According to MN, your 'user feedback' or surveys or something says people want colour changes?

Would it he helpful to MN to publish results and resultant plans so we, and you, don't get blindsided.

Eg

Our survey said 80% of 20000 respondents found colours too dull, so we are going to brighten them.

Our survey said users 20% of 200 couldn't identify the OPs posts, so we are going to put a bubble over them (despite posts already being highlighted by colour).

I think it would be helpful to know what feedback you are using to make these decisions. Sometimes it feels like a couple of people asked for it, and your coders thought it would be fun to do, so they did it.

People don't like unnecessary change. But they like options and helpful changes, such as tailoring our colours or see all by op, or edit features

Not a fan of the new lurid lavender blue. Looks cheap.

ETA: argh, and have just seen that my own posts are a girly salmon pink 🤢

ThisCanFuckOffToo · 19/09/2025 07:47

And yet we still can’t have capital letters at the beginning of paragraphs.

it’s absolute shite.

^👀

GlomOfNit · 19/09/2025 07:49

The pink is a step too far, I agree. Like most website changes, we'll probably get used to them soon, but I think sticking lurid PINK all over one's own posts is a kick in the teeth! And all the bright purple text and blue! And the pointless 'Original poster' labels - WE KNOW, YOU HAVE MADE THEIR POSTS A BRIGHT BLUE ALREADY

Change for change's sake. I've been here since 2006 and I feel like someone's changed the wallpaper in a house I've been living in for decades while I popped out for milk!

GlomOfNit · 19/09/2025 07:50

Looks like a trans flag 😂pale blue, white, pale pink.

GreyAreas · 19/09/2025 08:05

I really like it

TeenToTwenties · 19/09/2025 08:11

This thread isn't about the colours. It is about the PROCESS

Edited

Yeah ridiculous isn't it.

last night everyone was complaining about it being too bright, I said mine wasn't the colours were insipid. This morning mine is still inside but very very glary.

it's definitely headache inducing.

im off until they fix it

MN is a commercial business, they're not going to publish any summaries of their user research, why should they?

Whenthetimeisright · 19/09/2025 08:34

I agree with you OP.

I've been totally blindsided by the changes yesterday and am finding, although I'm making the best of things, the site now user unfriendly.

To be told the changes are as a result of feedback or whatever is totally perplexing. I 'm not aware of MN conducting surveys. I'd be very interested to see the survey questions, who actually was invited to take part in the surveys and a detailed summary of the findings.

And basically to know what prompted MN to tamper with things which seemed to be working ok.

Why should they? Because it will bring more of their customers base with them when they make changes to the look and feel.
MN is a business, but it likes to have an informal community feel, so getting buy in should be important to them.

SamphiretheTervosaur · 19/09/2025 10:22

I've changed colours in settings but they dont address the blue, which wouldn't pass any education or clear communication test, too bright, too much contrast, the magenta is a scaldingly bright pink, for example

If anyone @MNHQ is actually interested it's headache inducing bright and you should have taken some professional advice from someone who knows about clarity of online communication not some superannuated ex tik tokker

OldieButBaddie · 19/09/2025 10:25

Why don't they concentrate on fixing the AWFUL search functionality instead of giving us all migraines.

user892734543544 · 19/09/2025 10:36

The colours are gorgeous and uplifting.

TeenToTwenties · 19/09/2025 10:39

This thread isn't about the colours. It is about the process MN uses when introduces potentially controversial changes.

(Potentially controversial means any change to the look and feel and way of use that is imposed on existing users rather than just being an option.)

The colours are gorgeous and uplifting.

well i'm glad you find them 'gorgeous and uplifting' but everyone else with a visual impairment, or any kind of visual sensory issue is finding it impossible to deal with.

The glare, colours, contrast...etc are NOT accessible.

To make the site usable i've had to install a dark reader browser extension, activate dark mode, invert the colours, dial down the brightness, up dial up the grey scale.

but sure... who gives a toss about anyone with disabilities as long as a few people think its 'gorgeous and uplifting'

Darragon · 19/09/2025 10:49

I’m ungappy with the new colors. I went to change the Female Pink via settings but all the new options are rubbish. The lavender looks too much like a MNHQ post and the green is nothing like the green of two days ago. My own grey posts also look blue on my screen. The color options are shit and too pale on my screen and I want proper shades of green, blue and purple back like it used to be.

Yes, I found the 'grey' isn't grey at all when the true grey of a quoted post appears next to it, making the 'grey' option appear pale blue. But it can read as grey absent any quoted post, which messes with my mind when I'm scanning a thread. I've gone to dark mode so there are no post colours now. It's not what I want but light mode is unusable for me.

... message bug again...

As to the OP's point, it's been interesting to see on these threads how many users had no idea that they could choose their own colours, or that they could do this to differentiate their posts & an OP's posts from the mass of replies. If this ignorance was present in the people who responded to MN's survey it might explain things like the 'my posts' buttons, or the lousy colour options (because the ignorant didn't use the proper old colour options so had no idea what worked).

eatfigs · 19/09/2025 12:20

You'll most likely get used to it, give it a week or so. It's not that outlandish a change.

Do a little research. Many of the users complaining have eye conditions & migraine susceptibility. They're not going to 'get used to it'.

ExquisitelyDecorating · 19/09/2025 12:40

I don't like them, I have had mine set to OP in green, me in lavender for as long as I can remember and now the colours are so pale you hardly notice the difference.

But if they add auto-capitalisation that would be far worse, I can't stand predictive text and autoformatting.

I agree, who does get asked, I never have been.

I'm doing much the same. I have a left eye issue that it is exacerbating. Nothing else i read does this!

Icon15 · 19/09/2025 12:58

I changed my OP posts colour back to green in the settings. It's always been green, ever since the option to choose the colour existed.
However, the latest version of "green" appears to be a light greenish-grey colour. It's not green enough to clearly differentiate it from grey.
In the screenshot, the OP's post is at the top and an advert with a grey background is at the bottom.

It would be helpful if the pink "fruit pastille" with My Posts was a different colour to the OP which is also pink. Why not have it blue or purple so it's easier to pick out.
