Can you block a single advert?

Is there a way to block an advert and have an alternative, like you can do on most other platforms?

All of a sudden there is an advert with a duck and cigarettes that is utterly turning my stomach to the point that I’m reluctant to browse the site, and it seems to be on every page of every thread.

I have quite a severe phobia around cigarettes, even writing the word is difficult.

I realise this isn’t going to bother everyone but it would be helpful if there was an opt out for specific adverts.

I don't know the answer, but a hopeful bump. I'm sick of seeing flashing/moving adverts which are extremely distracting when trying to read a message. 😡

Hello @WingsofRain with Google ads, there is an x in the top right corner - if you click on this, you'll see an option to not see that ad again. As for the ad you describe, it does sound like something we'd block and so if you see it again, could you please share a screenshot (if you can bear it) along with the page you saw it on. Thank you.

On this actual thread. It appears on pretty much every thread I look at just now. I can’t see anything to click on to ask for a different ad.

That option doesn't apply to the verging on porn Ann Summers ads. Why is MNHQ forcing "top shelf" pictures on members.?

Can someone tell me when this advert is going to stop being shown please?

I’m hardly seeing any other ads now, it’s on every single thread and it appears over and over.

Surely if we have to look at adverts we should at least be able to choose which ones we want to see?

I’ve been on the site for five minutes this morning and I’m feeling nauseous because all I’m seeing is that revolting advert over and over. I’m going to end up just not visiting MN at all.

On top of that, it doesn’t serve the purpose that advertising is surely intended for - don’t you want me to see things I might enjoy and want to buy? How is forcing users to see the same pointless, disgusting advert in every slot on every thread helping you increase your ad revenue?

Even if you are the sort of person who doesn’t mind seeing it, you aren’t going to click on it, are you?

Thanks for the screenshot @WingsofRain . We'll see if we can locate the ad now. If anyone is able to click on it and share the url that would be enormously helpful, too. Thanks!

@HebeMumsnet Do you have any updates on this? The advert is constant and it’s on every thread. Others have complained about it but it’s still there.

I’ve noticed that someone offered to block an ad for tractors which isn’t common enough for me to have ever seen it, but this horrible ad is still there and another member of Mumsnet staff has said on another thread complaining about it that they aren’t going to address the problem.

When is it going to stop being displayed?
