Please help, MNHQ - I can only post once on any thread due to 'please select username' issue.

I'm getting an error message 'please select username' whenever I try to post on a thread. If it's my first post, the username field is editable and if I add and delete a character, it will accept it and let me post. For subsequent posts, the username field is obviously greyed out as you can't change name mid-thread, but I am still getting the same error message only as I can't 'pretend' to edit the username it won't let me post. This means I can't reply at all once I have posted on a thread (and same will be true for this thread).

I have tried - clearing cookies; changing my username (twice).

I am using desktop on Safari

I've attached a couple of screenshots to show the error.

Please can you help as this is really frustrating, it means I can't reply to anyone who has engaged with my previous posts and I look like an arch 'thread plopper'!!

It seems to be a problem for quite a few people, hopefully mn will get it sorted soon .

I'm having this problem too, it's very frustrating. I don't like the app much, although I do use it.

Help! Me too. Can post initially then when I go to post for second time, it grays out username and can't change. Using a tablet.

Same problem here. Is someone tinkering at the back end?

Although im pleased if it stops people name changing on a thread they've already posted on, but it would still nice to be able to post in the first place though.

I've just had this in a thread i posted on earlier today. And this is my only username. Most odd and annoying. Chrome on an android phone.

Hi @JoMumsnet - This is the OP - I have had to create a new account on my husband's laptop to reply. On my original account, I am now not even getting a reply box on threads whether I have posted on them previously or not - there's no error message, the thread just ends with no box underneath. I can't screenshot as I have no way of posting now on my usual account.

Its also scrolling to the end of a thread, not where is book marked, not sure if this is linked.

That might be the ongoing issue where if you started and then deleted a post before posting it, you’re then always taken to the bottom of the thread.

I’m now getting the username issue as well, as well as slow loading and huge blank adverts causing massive scrolling.

Could be, although the deleted post was the one it wouldn't let me submit due to username issues!

Although since that second post worked here, I'll try it again elsewhere.

Nope, still not allowing me to post on other threads bar the first one.

This has been happening to me too. Nine times out of ten it resolves when I clear history (last 15 minutes/ hour) in my browser.

Copy the text of your post first, to paste back in, because this clears it.

It’s on long threads - you know the ones that already take ages to load - very frustrating

Thought it was just me.

My text box is back now on my original account, but still unable to post more than once on any thread due to error posted above. I have tried -

• changing username
• changing back to really old username
• clearing cookies
• shutting down and restarting

Other ideas to sort this very welcome! I can't keep borrowing DH's Chromebook to use MN!

@LilyMumsnet WorthyLion is the temporary account I set up on my husband's laptop in order to reply to posts while my normal account wasn't working. It's all fixed now, thank you.

I had this in a thread I post on several times a week. Tried changing names and all sorts. Eventually typed in the message box, ignored the greyed-out name and the question mark, and it posted without any problem.
